    Objectives:

    By the end of the lesson the students will have been able:1. to talk about the topic of the unit .

    Lesson aims:

    encouraging Ss to use their imagination, creativity and knowledgeabout the topic

    matching the words with their definitions to make up sentences developing vocabulary skills

    reading / listening for specific information writing a review / planning a film festival

    Skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking

    Materials: worksheets, dictionaries, audio file, pictures of famous films andinformation from the page: http://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/big-city-small-world , internet.

    Strategy methods: conversation, dialogue, problematical situation,exercises, explanation, understanding details, vocabulary, discussions

    ACTIVITY 1 - Warm up

    Aims: -to introduce the students into the atmosphere of the lesson;-to attract students attention on the topic;

    ACTIVITY 2 Lead-in

    Aims:

    Developing vocabulary skills Activate knowledge of types of film /generate interest in the topic

    PROCEDURE

    On the board T writes the title of the lesson: Films festivals in Englandand announce the objectives of the lesson.T uses pictures (from the internet) of or from famous films to generateinterest and get the students thinking about films and film types. T elicitsthe principal genres documentary, fiction, comedy, drama, romance,thriller, action, horror. After that, T gives out Ss worksheets A. In pairs orsmall groups Ss answer the discussion questions.

    ACTIVITY 3

    Aims: Read / Listen for specific information Understanding details

    PROCEDURE 1

    T puts audio to the Ss and asks Ss to answer questions 1 and 2:Q1: In which cities are the festivals?a).London b). Leeds c). Sunderland d).Sheffield

    Q.2 What is the main difference between the two festivalsa).Sheffield is a festival for documentary films

    b). London is a festival for fiction films

    ACTIVITY 4

    Aims:

    Match meanings to words Discussing and expressing opinions;

    PROCEDURE

    Using the context of the text to help them, T asks students to match thewords to the definitions. This could be done as a mingle activity. Cut out the words and definitions so each is on its own piece of paper Give each student a word or two. Distribute the definitions around the class. The students then find the definition(s) for their word(s). Feed back to the board, be sure to check and drill the pronunciation.

    ACTIVITY 5

    Aims:

    to encourage Ss to use their imagination, creativity and knowledgeabout the topic

    To personalize and get Ss interested in the topic Writing a review, planning a film festival

    PROCEDURE:

    As a follow up activity, in this exercise, students write short film reviews.Then, in small groups, they look at a selection of these reviews and plan afilm festival.

    ACTIVITY 6 (homework and awards)

    Aims:

    to have Ss practice listening and speaking skills focus on the lessontopic to brainstorm the Ss knowledge on the topic and train them in using it

    creativity.

    PROCEDURE 1

    Teacher asks Ss to finish the reviews at home.

    PROCEDURE 2

    Teacher gives awards to the most competitive Ss.
