Lesson Plan English Level: Elementary Topic: Shopping and Food Objectives: By the end of this session, students should be able to… -talk about shopping and food. -talk about preferences and give reasons. -produce sentences using countable and uncountable nouns. - write sentences about the food they buy every week and what do they eat every meal. Instructional Sequence: Stage/Time Aim Activities Teaching Aids 1.Vocabul ary Food (15 mins.) Prepare Ss to what they are going to learn about food and grocery shopping. Introduce the food vocabulary -Preview a shopping list for them on the data show. -Ask Ss whether they do a shopping list before they go grocery shopping or not. -Ask Ss which foods do they always buy every week. -The teacher sticks on the wall different cards to classify the food. -Divide the class to equal groups and give each group different pictures of [fruits/vegetables/meat..] and cards of words .Ss match each word with the right picture under the right classification. -After Ss finish the Teacher asks the Ss to correct together for the other groups. The teacher guides them when needed. -The teacher reads through the categories in the book to check that learners know their meaning. The teacher asks Ss to answer the exercise in the book for further practice about categories. Pictures/Course Book

2.ReadingWeird fruits & vegetables(20 mins..)Prepare students for the reading passage.

Arouse their interest and check their understanding about strange fruit and veg.-The teacher display on the data show different pictures of strange fruits and vegetables and ask Ss to guess their names. The teacher tells Ss they will read an article about those strange fruit and veg.

-The teacher presents some questions on the data show.-Ss scan the article in the book to answer the questions.-The teacher corrects their answers.-The teacher presents another question and asks Ss to skim the article to discuss it.-Ss discuss their answers and the teacher guides them if needed.Power-Point/ Course Book

3.Vocabulary & Speaking(15 mins.)Learn how to useI prefer/I'd ratherBecause/I think

Talking about preferences & giving reasons-To elicit the preferences expressions the teacher writes a matching exercise in on the board and asks Ss to match 1-4 with a-d.-The teacher elicits the expressions that are used to talk about preferences and giving reasons from the sentences on the board.

The teacher explains the lesson and highlights the use of [which do you prefer and why?].

-The teacher gives each student a word card and encourages Ss to ask any of their classmates about their preferences using the words that they have in their cards.-The teacher corrects their mistakes. Cards / Course Book

4.Grammar(30 mins.)

WritingLearn the difference between countable and uncountable nouns.Usage of [How many/How much /a-an /some /a lot of]

Learn how to apply what they have learnt about countable and uncountable nouns.-Ss watch a video about two chefs in a cooking competition.-The teacher asks Ss to notice what ingredients each chef needs to cook his recipe.-Write their answers on the board.-Ask Ss to come to the board to write next to each ingredient [ a-an/some/a lot of]-Ask Ss to put instead of these expressions numbers for example instead of (some) put 2 or 3(if possible).-Elicit from their answers the countable and uncountable nouns and the expressions that match each.-Ask Ss what question words can be used to ask about quantity.-Elicit from Ss' answers [How many /How much] and elicit from Ss the rule.-Ss answer the exercise in the book and ask them to exchange their books with the Student next to them to peer correct each other. The teacher corrects with Ss the exercise after they finish.-For further practice the teacher divides Ss to groups of three and asks each student in a group to write a sentence about what does s/he eat in one meal either breakfast ,lunch or dinner so that by the end each group will have a paper that includes the 3 meals and what do they buy every week .-The teacher asks the Ss of the same group to correct for each other their grammar or spelling mistakes before sharing their answers with their class mates.-Each group will show to the class their paper and the class will correct their mistakes and the teacher guides them if needed.-For more interaction Ss ask the group's participants questions using How much/How many.-The teacher guides/corrects for them if needed.Video / Course Book
