Properties of Reflection
The line over which a preimage is reflected is called the line of reflection or the “mirror line.”
Each point of the preimage will beequidistant to the line of reflection witheach corresponding point of the image.

Graph the reflection ofeach of the following points in the y-axis
A(-3, 3)B(2, -5)
C(-1, -1) What do you notice about
the coordinates of the preimage and the image?
Example Graph the reflection ofeach of the following points in the x-axis

What do you notice about the coordinates of the vertices of the preimage and the image?
Properties of Reflection
If (x,y) is reflected in the y-axis, its image is (–x,y)
If (x,y) is reflected in the x-axis, its image is (x,–y)
If (x,y) is reflected in y = x, its image is (y, x)
