Incident with the People of the Elephants

Prophet was born Fifty or fifty five days before the incident with the people of the elephants.

This incident is mentioned is Surah Feel. Abdul Muttalib had faith Allah would protect it. Huge flocks of small birds appeared. Each had

a pebble in their beak and claws. This incident took place in Muharram.

Surah Feel - 106

. Have you (O Muhammad ()) not seen how your Lord dealt with the Owners of the Elephant? [The elephant army which came from Yemen under the command of Abrahah Al-Ashram intending to destroy the Ka'bah at Makkah].

2. Did He not make their plot go astray?

3. And sent against them birds, in flocks,

4. Striking them with stones of Sijjil.

5. And made them like an empty field of stalks (of which the corn has been eaten up by cattle).

Birth

Born at Dawn on Monday 8th Rab'i Al – Awwal which is April 570 A.D in Makkah in Abu Talib's house.

Allama Ibn Jawzi confirms majority of the scholars are of this view.

Abdullah ibn Aas says Prophet was born on the crack of dawn.

The crack of dawn was the appropriate time for the rising of the sun (Birth of the prophet) whose time will come after forty years.

Date of Birth

12th Rab'i Al – Awal is famous. However, Muhaddithin and historians prefer the 8th Rab'i

Al Awal. (Abdullah ibn Abbas, Jubiar ibn Mutim and Qastalani)

Conclusion, Majority are of the view of the 8th.

Miracles at the time of Birth

The mother of Uthman bin Abul As, Fatima bint Abdullah says: During the blessed night I was his mother and the enitre house was radiant with Nur (Light) and I also saw start stooping down that I thought it would come down crashing on me.

Who was Uthman Bin Abu As?

The narrator of this hadith Yaqub bin Muhammed Zuhri.

His narrations are found in Ibn Majah and Bukhari

This narration can be found in Fathul Bari volume 6 page 426.

Similar narration are in Ahmed, Mustadrak Hakim. Ibn Hibban say this narration is authentic.

Haytami says this hadith is narrated by Ahmen and the chain of narration is satisfactory.

Palaces of Busra (Syria) were illuminated.

The light refers to an indication that the darkness of polytheism will be removed from the earth.

First city to be conquered by the Muslims.

Isa (A.S) will be taken to Damascus

Prophet encourage the migration to Syria before the day of Judgement. (Hakim and Hibaan)

Fourteen represents the kingdoms they ruled.

A priest seen a dream: Powerfully built camels were dragging Arabian horses. They cross the river and disperse around the world.

Sign of the collapse of their empire 10 out of the 14 kingdom was was conquered

within four years and the remaining four was conquered by Uthman.

Jarir Tabari, Hafiz ibn Hajar, Ibn Kathir narrates this incident.

This narration is Mursal, however the narrators are authentic.
