Audley – General ProfilePopulation size The previous Census in 2001 found that the population of Audley was approximately 8501. The latest results from the 2011 Census show that this number has risen to 9183. Age structure Figure 2 shows the 9183 population of Audley broken down by age and sex. 34.7% of its population is aged 0-19, compared with 28.7% for Blackburn with Darwen as a whole. Ethnicity The 2011 Census shows that Audley has an estimated 2462 White residents (26.8% of its population), down from 3521 in 2001. The 2011 estimate of the Indian population is 3137 (or 34.2%), and the Pakistani population is 2668 (or 29.1%). These figures compare with 2553 and 1994 respectively in 2001. 5805 are from Southern Asian Ethnicity

General health The Census asks residents to rate their general state of health as: very good, good, fair, bad or very bad. Figure 10 shows the breakdown in Audley. In order to compare the health of this ward meaningfully with other places, we must make allowance for their differing age-profiles. One approach is to look at each age-group separately (Figure 11), so that we are comparing like with like:
