Sleeve is the part which cover arms – its fitting and appearance depends upon different matters e.g. position of armhole , underarm seam, fullness and sleeve hem
sleeve should be cut on straight grain – there are two types of sleeve used in shirt – full and half – one piece and two piece – with cuff and without cuff –
TYPES OF SLEEVETYPES OF SLEEVE
As per fashion and style – many kinds of sleeve – basically three types as per armhole fitting – set in sleeve , raglan sleeve and kimono sleeve
SET IN SLEEVESET IN SLEEVE
• To be fit on curved armhole –with crown – join at shoulder seam – underarm of the sleeve to be join with bodice underarm seam - tight or loose fitting
• Types of set in sleeve : plain, puff, three quarter, full sleeve etc.
RAGLAN SLEEVERAGLAN SLEEVE
-This sleeve joins the bodice with
- slightly curved seam – running diagonally
- from the underarm front and back – it start
- from neck line – an easy fitting and
-comfort sleeve type –
KIMONO SLEEVEKIMONO SLEEVE
To be cut with the bodice – in long sleeve, a gusset is required for Comfort movement – an un mounted sleeve – normally used in ladies shirt
TYPES OF CUFFTYPES OF CUFF
The cuff is a band – fixed on sleeve
hem – can make differ in shape, size – its both
ends make open to wear a shirt – there are two
types of cuff –
BARRLE CUFFBARRLE CUFF
Commonly used – have 2” to 4” length – both ends overlap each other-make with buttonhole and button
FRENCH CUFFFRENCH CUFF
Have double length – have 5” to 10” length – turn on upper side – close with cuff links or open edges
