• The Lord is far from the wicked & against those who do evil.– “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to

the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight…The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous” (Prov. 15:8, 29).

– “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth” (Psa. 34:15-16).

hear” (Psa. 66:18).– “So I spoke to you; yet you would not listen, but

rebelled against the command of the LORD, and presumptuously went up into the mountain. And the Amorites who dwelt in that mountain came out against you and chased you as bees do, and drove you back from Seir to Hormah. Then you returned and wept before the LORD, but the LORD would not listen to your voice nor give ear to you” (Deut. 1:43-45).

• The principle is simple: If you won’t hear God, God won’t hear you.– “One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer

is an abomination” (Prov. 28:9).– “‘But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped

their ears so that they could not hear. Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen,’ says the LORD of hosts” (Zech. 7:11-13).

– “Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has” (Job 42:8).

• It is likely from O.T. teachings such as these that the uninspired blind man who Jesus healed said, “We know that God does not hear sinners” (John 9:31).– But, what sinners would he be talking about?– All sinners?– Any sinners?

• Notice that the passages looked at in the O.T. were individuals or nations who were practicing sin and rebellion as a lifestyle.
