Compare and ContrastSam the Rattlesnake liked being scary. But the other

animals didn’t like being scared. Whenever they heard the

“shake, shake, shake” of his tail, they ran to hide.

After a while, Sam got tired of being alone. He decided

to be friendly for a change.

That very day, Sam saw Rabbit trying to pull up a carrot.

Sam pulled up the carrot with his tail and gave it to Rabbit.

“Thanks, Sam!” said Rabbit.

Then Sam saw Squirrel trying to grab an acorn. Sam

grabbed the acorn with his fangs and gave it to Squirrel.

“Thanks, Sam!” said Squirrel.

Soon the animals stopped being scared of Sam. They

started listening for the “shake, shake, shake” of Sam’s tail.

That sound told them that help was on the way!

Read the story above. Then complete the Venn Diagram to show how Sam changed.

Compare and ContrastBoo the Cat always hid under a bush. She wanted to be

brave and sit in the sun. But Boo was scared of everything,

including her own name — Boo! So Boo kept hiding.

One day, some nice kittens sat near Boo. Then Boo saw

Broozer, the meanest dog in the neighborhood, sneaking up

behind the kittens. Boo was afraid of Broozer, but she couldn’t

let him bother those kittens.

Boo ran up to Broozer and looked him in the eye. She

felt her bravery grow inside her. Boo let out a loud screech —

and Broozer ran away!

After that, Boo the Brave spent every day in the sun,

talking and laughing with her kitten friends.

Answer the questions below. Then use a Venn diagram to show how you and Boo are the same and different.

1. Think about something you have done to help

someone. What was the same about what you did in

your life and what Boo does to help the kittens?

2. What was different about what you did and what

Boo does?
