Teacher’s Guide In this lesson, the student will learn: How to say and form cardinal numbers Quantities: “There is” and “There are” with “How much” and “How many” Days, Months, Seasons Ordinal numbers Assessments (with answer keys): Quiz 2.1 (Vocabulary List 2.1 – Cardinal Numbers and Quantities) Quiz 2.2 (Vocabulary List 2.2 – Days, Months, Seasons, and Ordinal Numbers) Test 2 (Vocabulary List 2.1 and 2.2) Project 2 (“Numbers” Project) Notes: The goal of this lesson is to teach numbers and help students apply their “numbers” vocabulary in discussing the calendar (days, months, and seasons). They will also learn ordinal numbers to help them express dates correctly. The vocabulary lists and notes have 3 copies: Teacher’s List, Spanish/English List, and English Only List. The teacher may want to provide the translations, or he/she may want students to look up words using a dictionary or translator. If the teacher is bilingual, he/she may want to use the English Only List and fill in the sheet with the students. “Sparkle” is an excellent game to help students learn spelling. It can be used as a review game at any point in the lesson. To play, have students stand up at their desks. Say a vocabulary word, and each student says one letter of the word. Once the word has been spelled, the next student says, “Sparkle,” and the next student sits down. Students also sit down if they misspell the word. This is a great game to learn the spellings of the ordinal and cardinal numbers, days, dates, and seasons. In Quiz 2.2, students are asked to write all of the ordinal numbers 120 then ordinal numbers 30, 40, 50, etc. The last two questions ask students to write 92 nd and 46 th because this shows that they understand the pattern of ordinal numbers and how to form them after 21. Pacing Suggestion: 45minute period Day 1: Introduce “Cardinal Numbers and Quantities” vocabulary list and notes. Day 2: Review “Cardinal Numbers and Quantities” notes and have students work on AD Day 3: Review “Cardinal Numbers and Quantities” notes and have students work on crossword puzzle Day 4: Review “Cardinal Numbers and Quantities” notes and have students work on F Day 5: Review “Cardinal Numbers and Quantities” notes and play BINGO Day 6: Review “Cardinal Numbers and Quantities” notes and take quiz 2.1 Day 7: Introduce “Days, Months, Seasons, and Ordinal Numbers” vocabulary list and notes. Teacher’s  Guide  In  this  lesson,  the  student  will  learn:

• How  to  say  and  form  cardinal  numbers  • Quantities:  “There  is”  and  “There  are”  with  “How  much”  and  “How  many”  • Days,  Months,  Seasons  • Ordinal  numbers

 Assessments  (with  answer  keys):

• Quiz  2.1  (Vocabulary  List  2.1  –  Cardinal  Numbers  and  Quantities)  • Quiz  2.2  (Vocabulary  List  2.2  –  Days,  Months,  Seasons,  and  Ordinal  Numbers)  • Test  2  (Vocabulary  List  2.1  and  2.2)    • Project  2  (“Numbers”  Project)

 Notes:

• The  goal  of  this  lesson  is  to  teach  numbers  and  help  students  apply  their  “numbers”  vocabulary  in  discussing  the  calendar  (days,  months,  and  seasons).    They  will  also  learn  ordinal  numbers  to  help  them  express  dates  correctly.

• The  vocabulary  lists  and  notes  have  3  copies:  Teacher’s  List,  Spanish/English  List,  and  English  Only  List.

• “Sparkle”  is  an  excellent  game  to  help  students  learn  spelling.

• In  Quiz  2.2,  students  are  asked  to  write  all  of  the  ordinal  numbers  1-‐20  then  ordinal  numbers  30,  40,  50,  etc.  The  last  two  questions  ask  students  to  write  92nd  and  46th  because  this  shows  that  they  understand  the  pattern  of  ordinal  numbers  and  how  to  form  them  after  21.
