Opening

Goal

• To show students the correct position for keyboarding and how to correctly position the hands on the keyboard

Objectives (Student Outcomes)

Following this presentation, students will be able to:

• Explain the importance of sitting correctly during keyboarding (posture)

• Identify the home row keys

• Identify the space bar

• Demonstrate how to correctly position the hands on the keyboard

– Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems and operations

Let’s Review: Lab Rules and Procedures “COMPUTER LAB”

• Come in quietly; Sit to assigned computer

• Only visit programs and internet sites approved

• Make sure you keep your workstation neat and leave the workstation as found

• Print only with permission

• Use assigned computer; Use restroom before class; Use inside voice

• Treat teacher, classmates, equipment with respect

• Eat and drink outside

• Read all screens before asking questions (RATS!)

• Listen carefully; Lights off mean – Attention!

• Ask an immediate neighbor/peer partner for help before asking teacher

• Be prepared to learn – Mind, Body, Spirit (Ignacio, 2013)

Let’s Review – QWERTY Keyboard

QWERTY (kwer-tee) Keyboard

• Designed in 1868 by Christopher Sholes, Inventor of type writer

• Popular myth states Sholes arranged keys in odd manner to prevent keys from jamming on the typewriter

• Jamming not an issue today – Competitors like Dvorak

are still no competition for QWERTY keyboard
