MEMORY VERSEPsalm 145:20, “The Lord preserves all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.”

GOALSTHE CHILD WILL...• Know that God is holy and He must punish sin.

• Hear that God is the Judge.• Understand that he has sinned and his sin must be punished.

• Know that he can have a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus.

• Believe on Jesus for the forgiveness of his sins.

• Choose to follow God with his life.

REMINDERSBe careful not to be confrontational in your discussion of sin. Often we see that Jesus would ask questions

that led those who sinned to tell what had happened. He dealt with issues in a gentle way rather than in an

aggressive way. At times, throughout Scripture, you may see that God dealt aggressively with sin when the

person sinning knew what was right and blatantly chose to sin against Him. Children have much to learn.

As you discuss sin, lead the children to desire the company of Christian adults without fear of “attack” or

constant rebuke. Listen and guide their thoughts and actions to truth.

NOAH OBEYS GODBIBLE STORY - GENESIS 6:1-9:17Recommended Visuals

• flashcard visuals

Introduction• After God created earth, all of the animals, and all of the people, Adam and Eve sinned against God.

God told them that the consequences for their choices would mean they would have to leave their

beautiful garden home and work really hard for their food and for their families. During the years that

followed, the people learned how to grow food, care for animals, design and play musical instruments,

cook, build, and many other things. They were very smart and figured all of this out together using the

abilities God had given them.

Story

• Retell the story from Genesis 6:1-9:17.

Conclusion

• God had brought the flood to punish all of the sin that people were doing, because God must punish

sin. God had taken care of Noah and his family. He had provided for them and rescued them. When

Noah and his family got off of the boat, Noah made sacrifices to God. God saw this and was very

pleased with Noah. After the flood, God made a promise that He would never flood the whole earth

again.

TESTIMONY• Share how you realized that you deserved to be punished for your sins.

• Explain how you came to know God as your Father and Jesus as your Savior.

• Share how you spend time getting to know God better to help you avoid making sinful choices.

CHALLENGERecommended Visuals

• pictures of people washing their hands, soap, a bathtub, a sponge*, key point visuals*, Power Phrase

visual*, Psalm 145:20 verse visual*, Bible

Introduction

• In Jesus’ time, the religious leaders thought it was very important to make sure that people were

clean. They spent a lot of time cleaning their bodies and trying to make themselves look righteous or

good, as if cleaning the outside would make them better inside. Jesus told them that being clean on the

outside was not the same as having a right heart or a good relationship with God (Luke 11:39-40). It’s

good to wash my hands and be clean on the outside, but it doesn’t mean that my heart is good. In fact,

God says that everyone has evil things in their heart (Jeremiah 17:9).

Key Points

People choose to sin!

• God tells us that all people choose to sin (Isaiah 64:6). Share the definition of sin. People sin because

they want their own way. They don’t remember that God created them and loves them. They don’t

think about the fact that God gave them colors to look at, minds to design beautiful things, friendships,

the ability to speak, and many other wonderful gifts. They just think of the things that they want

instead of the things that they have. Think about the people who lived near Noah. Even though they

saw that Noah loved and feared God, they chose to do what they wanted. The Bible says that all have

sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). God wanted people to know Him and to have a

relationship with Him, but people choose their own way instead of God’s way. God must punish sin,

because God is completely perfect and fair. But God has done something amazing for us.

Jesus was punished for our sin!

• God tells us that He loves us so much that He sent God the Son, Jesus, to take the punishment that

people deserve (Romans 5:8). Jesus lived a perfect life on earth so that He could pay for sin. It cost

Jesus a lot to pay for sin. Jesus suffered very much. People treated Him very badly. He gave His life so

that we could be saved from the punishment we deserve (John 14:6).

I can choose to ask God to forgive my sin!

• We need to ask God to forgive our sin and choose to follow Him (1 John 1:9). God wants me to know

and love Him. We can’t make ourselves clean in our hearts or minds. We can’t pay for our sin with

doing good things (Ephesians 2:8-9). We need to remember that only through Jesus can we be right

with God.

CHALLENGE CONTINUEDConclusion

• God must punish sin. In the story today, we learned about how God sent the flood in Noah’s time to

punish the sin and evil that was happening. Our sin deserves to be punished. Jesus took the

punishment of death that we deserve for our sin. Jesus made the way for us to be forgiven.

• Invite the unsaved child to know God and ask God to forgive his sin.

• Invite the saved child to remember that only Jesus makes us right with God.

WE CAN TALK TO GODARRIVING ACTIVITYVisuals

• pictures of people praying*

Supplies• paper, writing tools

Instruction and Application

• As the children arrive, ask the children if there is anything that they would like you to be praying for.

Give them time to think about it and share any prayer request that they may have. Write down their

prayer requests. Explain to the team that praying is talking to God, and we can talk to God about

anything. Take a few minutes to pray with the children and address the requests they mentioned. After

you’re done praying, remind the children that we have a great privilege to be able to talk to God

openly and wherever we please; in some places, people are thrown in jail and persecuted for praying

and talking about God.

WHAT WE DESERVEGOSPEL PRESENTATIONVisuals

• “What’s the Problem?” Foundational Gospel Truths visual*

Supplies• 10-15 craft sticks per group, marker board, dry-erase marker, eraser

Instruction and Application

• Have the children give you examples of sin. Write their ideas on the marker board and ask them to

think in their heads if they have ever done any of these things. Ask them what they would do if they

were the manager of a store and one of their employees stole from them, lied about something, or was

being rude to customers. Talk about what may be the consequences of those actions, including the

possibility of getting fired. Explain to them that the Bible says that the punishment for sinning against

God is death and eternal separation from God in a place of punishment called Hell. Read Romans 3:23

and 6:23. Remind the children that we all deserve to die for the sins we have committed, but by

believing on Jesus we can have eternal life.

Discussion

• Older Team: Ask the children why God must punish sin. Ask them how someone can receive eternal

life. Ask them why God loves people.

• Younger Team: Ask the children who has sinned. Ask the children what the punishment for sin is.

• Quiet Team: Allow children to build an “ark” or boat with craft sticks as you review the “What’s the

Problem?” portion of the Foundational Gospel Truths.

• Active Team: Ask the children what their favorite animals are. Allow the children to act out their

favorite animal as they answer the questions. Ask them why God sent the flood. Ask them why Jesus

had to die on the cross.

PROTECTION OR DESTRUCTIONMEMORY VERSEVisuals

• Bible Story visuals for Daniel and the Lion’s Den*, Memory Verse visual*, Bible

Supplies• coloring tools, decorating supplies, a ball, a sheet of paper with six boxes (one with the word sin, one

with a picture of the cross, one with a picture representing salvation, one with a picture of a Bible, one

with a picture of someone praying, one with the word Heaven)*

A — ATTENTION GRABBER

Share briefly with the children the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den as told in Daniel 6. As you show the

children the pictures, be sure to emphasize that Daniel was being punished for worshiping God; and

because Daniel honored God, God protected Daniel and kept him safe. Then show the team the pictures

of the wicked men being thrown into the lion’s den. Explain that these men were the ones who wanted to

harm Daniel. These men were wicked and did not honor God at all. Share with the team that in the end, it

was the wicked men who were thrown into the lion’s den and killed. God saved Daniel because Daniel

loved God and obeyed Him. Remind the children that we have all disobeyed God, and we deserve to be

punished for our disobedience. God must punish sin! But God sent Jesus to take our punishment for us

and when we believe on Jesus, God promises to forgive us, to be with us, and to protect us.

PROTECTION OR DESTRUCTION CONTINUEDMEMORY VERSEreview game

Play Pass the Ball. Pass a ball quickly among the children while they repeat the verse. As they finish saying

the verse, the person holding the ball in his hand recites the entire verse.

Discussion

• Older Team: Ask the team if they can remember a time when they had to choose to either obey or

disobey God. If they are comfortable doing so, ask them to share what they did and if it was hard or

easy. Share an example from your life.

• Younger Team: Ask the team what they can do to show God and others that they love God. Ask them if

they think it’s always easy to honor God. Remind the children that God will help them do what is right.

• Quiet Team: Help the children decorate the paper with the six boxes using the provided supplies. As

they are decorating their paper, walk them through each step of the Gospel Presentation and

encourage them to use the paper they decorate as a tool to share the Gospel with others.

• Active Team: Allow children to act out parts of Daniel and the Lion’s Den as you narrate. Then have

them take turns sharing what they might have done if they were in a situation like Daniel was.

DIFFERENT VISIONCRAFTSupplies

• 2 full-length chenille stems, 2 half pieces of a chenille stem

Instruction and Application• Instruct them to make eyeglasses using the two large pieces as frames and the small pieces as the

earpieces. First, twist the large stems together twice in the center to make a bridge for the nose. Then

shape the remaining length into circles, squares, diamonds or other interesting shapes for eyeglass

frames, twisting the ends to hold together. Lastly, form the small pieces into earpieces and attach them

to the eyeglass frame. When the “glasses” are made, the children can put them on. Ask them if they see

differently with the glasses on. Ask if there is a difference when a person puts real glasses on. Explain

that glasses help people to see things up close and far away, and the view is different based on where

they are standing. Share with them that God can see things that we can’t see. He can see the future,

the past, and the present. Share that God also sees how terrible sin is and all the times that we have

broken His rules. Explain that people often don’t see how bad sin is and some don’t believe that they

have sinned. Tell them that God sees the truth about sin and knows that sin has to be punished, but He

also promises to save those who put their trust in Jesus, God the Son.

RAINBOW FISHCRAFTVisuals

• 1/4-page template of a fish on card stock with the Power Phrase printed on it*

Supplies

• liquid glue, tissue paper pieces in a variety of colors, googly eye

Instruction and Application

• The result is a fish covered in color to remind the children of God’s promise never again to destroy the

whole world in a flood. First, give each child a template. You could have them say the Power Phrase

with you. Next, have them color the face, fins, and tail. Then give them tissue paper pieces to glue to

the body. Lastly, they can glue a googly eye to their fish’s face. Ask questions about the Bible Story as

they make the craft. Encourage the children to use the craft to help them remember who God is and

that He always keeps His promises.

WHAT’S THE POINT?APPLICATION ACTIVITYSupplies

• gray paper, 8-10 craft sticks per child, sheets of white paper, liquid glue, markers

Activity #1• Give each child a sheet of white paper and several craft sticks. Instruct the children to glue the craft

sticks onto the paper in the shape of an ark. Review the Foundational Gospel Truths outline and have

the children write a truth from the Foundational Gospel Truths on each craft stick. You may need to

help the children write if you are doing this activity with a younger team.

Activity #2

• Begin by giving the children each a sheet of gray paper and having them crumple it until it resembles a

rock. Have each child add their “rock” to a pile in the middle of the group making an “altar.” As the

children add their “rocks” to the “altar,” encourage them to share with the rest of the team a promise

that God has made to Christians. For instance, God promises to always be with believers (Hebrews

13:5b-6). God promises to forgive the sins of those who choose to believe on Jesus (Romans 10:9).

NOW WHAT?ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIESSupplies

• “Noah” Coloring Page*

• “Noah” Fill in the Blank*

• “Noah” Maze*

Instruction and Application

• These activities are to be used with your team as time fillers while reinforcing the lesson concepts.

They can take these home each week or do them while they are listening to you teach during Small

Group. These activities require little to no explanation and can be great for moments when you are

transitioning or don’t have time to start another activity.
