Past SimpleQuestions

Pay attention!!!In the affirmative, we add +ED/D to the verb• I workED YESTERDAY.• she liveD in Florianópolis IN 2010But in questions the MAIN VERB takes the base form:• DID you work YESTERDAY? not DID you workED YESTERDAY?• DID she live in Florianópolis IN 2010? not DID she liveD in Florianópolis IN 2010?

Also, note that the PAST SIMPLE is always used with a time expression: “YESTERDAY”, “IN 2010”, etc.

Past SimpleShort Answers

For short answers in the Present Simple, we use the auxiliary verb DO, in the form DO (I, you, we, they) or DOES (+NOT) (he/she/it)• Do you work here? Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.• Does she live in Florianópolis?
