What is physical health? • The part of health that deals

with the body is physical health.• Today’s choices will affect

your physical health for years to come.

• Good Habits Practice the following habits to maintain your physical health:

1. Eat a balanced diet.

2. Get plenty of exercise.

3. Get 8 hours of sleep every night.

4. Avoid drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

5. Practice safety.

6. Practice good hygiene.

7. Visit your doctor and dentist regularly.

What Is Emotional Health? • Emotional health is the way you

recognize and deal with your feelings.

• During your adolescence years your body is changing and responsibilities are becoming more which can play a direct role on your emotional health.

• Healthy Emotions People with emotional health are able to:

1. Express emotions in calm and healthy ways

2. Deal with sadness and get help for depression

• What Is Mental Health? Mental health is the way you cope with the demands of daily life.

• Your mental health can be affect by many of the same things that affect your physical health.

• For example a lack of sleep hurts your mental alertness and your ability to deal with stress.

• Good Mental Health Having good mental health means that you can:

1. Solve problems with little trouble

2. Deal with stress effectively

• Explain how the environment influences your health.

• What Is Heredity? Heredity is the passing down of traits from parents to their biological child.

• Inherited Traits Physical traits that can be inherited, or passed down, include height and hair, eye, and skin color. Certain diseases can also be passed down from parent to child.

• An example of a disease that could be passed down would be muscular dystrophy which is an inherited disease of the muscles.

• If both parents carry the genetic trait for the disease, their child has a 25% chance of being born with the muscular dystrophy.

• Other disease like heart disease, are only partially determined by a person’s heridity.

• Your environment includes all of the living and nonliving things around you.

• The environment can affect all parts of your health.

• Asthma attacks are one such example of the way in which the environment can affect your health.

• Environmental factors that may bring on an asthma attack include such things as air pollution, tobacco smoke, and pollen.

• Emotional stress has also been known trigger of asthma attacks.

• Seasonal affective disorder, or SAD causes depression in some people if they do not get enough sunlight.

1. Brushing and flossing your teeth

6. Avoiding dangerous behavior
