“Zoom! Zoom!,” Caleb was flying his toy airplane
outside in the afternoon sun. Suddenly his plane
started making crashing and banging noises. It
had run out of petrol.

Down, down, down it went, falling on to the soft
grass of the backyard. Meanwhile, his Mum was
working hard cleaning the floors. When she
finished, she came out to the yard. “Caleb! It’s
time for dinner,” she called, “I just cleaned the
house so remember…”

“Take your shoes off.”
“Okay Mum,” replied Caleb not really paying
attention. When he ran inside for dinner he
completely forgot about taking off his shoes.
9
“CALEB!” his Dad said sternly when he saw him
walk in with dirty shoes, “Did Mummy tell you to
take off your shoes?”
“Yes,” replied Caleb sheepishly.
“Mum worked hard to clean the house today. How
will she feel when she sees this?”

Caleb imagines his Mother crying “I’m sorry,
Daddy,” Caleb apologizes sincerely.
“I know, I know,” Dad comforted,
“Let’s clean this mess up together.”
12
13
After they cleaned up Caleb’s mess Dad said,
“Well that was a lot of work.” “Yeah,” agreed
Caleb. “You know if you listened to Mummy and
taken off your shoes,” said Dad, “you would not
have had to do all that work. When we tell you to
do something, it’s because we love you.
We want the best for you. Remember what we
learned in family worship?”
14

“It was Ephesians chapter 6,” he answered.
“Right. This is what Jehovah wants you to do,
‘Children be obedient to your parents that it may go well with you.’
That is why you should always listen to Mummy
and Daddy.” Just then Mum yelled out,
“Dinner’s ready. Come and eat.”
“Come on, let’s go get some food,” Dad said to
Caleb.

A few days later Caleb was playing with his
marbles and toy truck. The marbles were in the
back of the truck in the tray. Caleb spilled them
all out on to the floor. His Mum came into the
room to get him for family worship.
18
19
“What a mess!” she exclaimed.
“Caleb, get your book,” she continued annoyed,
“and clean up all these marbles. Someone could
get hurt.”
Caleb did not want to clean up he loved family
worship.
20
21
He started running to the kitchen, suddenly, he
remembered what his Dad said a few days earlier.
“Always listen to Mummy and Daddy.” What would
happen if he didn’t clean up his mess?
22
23
He decided it would be better to pick up the toys.
When his Mother came in the living room she was
very pleased.
“Thank-You. I’m so proud of you for doing as I
asked. Your sister and Dad are waiting for us to
do family worship.”

Don’t forget to obey your parents and Jehovah!
