May the Bread of New Life that they continue to receive bless them in their faith. Congratulations!

News from . . . The Santa Maria del Mexicano de

Colon, Qro. I.A.P. (Mexican Orphanage)

Note: Parishioners who are interested in learning more about donat-ing funds to the Mexican Orphanage (using your Christian Concerns envelope) or those who are already contributing, here’s a recap of recent correspondence received from Fr. Cliff Norman who leads the orphanage and Fr. Mike who assists). Children continue to arrive . . Each week there are at least two re-quests to receive children—people are begging the orphanage to care for their children as they realize they have done a very poor job of giving them proper formation. The poor children are left on the streets until late hours of the night, refuse to go to school and then many become sexually active. The orphanage is called upon to take the children, but until they open their hearts to Jesus little or nothing can be done! That is the chal-lenge. Fortunately for Fr. Cliff and his staff they have about an 85% suc-cess rate. Volunteers . . . The orphanage has been blessed with volunteers who come from the United States and other areas of Mexico and share their many gifts and their deep faith with the primary and secondary students. Bad News/Good News . . . Higher food prices have greatly affected the orphanage, especially the price of tortillas, a very important food sta-ple. The price of tortillas has been raised more than 100% in some ar-eas. Fr. Cliff has long wanted the children’s diet to be more nutritious. A new greenhouse was built to grow fresh vegetables and a tortilla machine installed so they can make their own tortillas which are consumed at all three meals. This has helped combat the higher prices of food. Children are interested in pursuing careers in agriculture and possibly as veteri-narians. In closing . . . “You may not be able to see the difference you are making with your prayers and support, but it is happening. Our desire is that these children have jobs and careers that pay well enough so they don’t risk their lives crossing the border because of the great poverty, higher prices for food, etc., we want to keep these families united here. And because of you and your love for these children, they have a chance to have a good life. Thank you. God bless you and your families.” Fr. Mike.

Christian Concern Envelopes Every month, a yellow envelope marked Christian Concerns is sent to you along with the weekly envelopes for our parish. We support special missions through these contribution envelopes. This month, donations will assist the Santa Maria del Mexicano de Colan Qro. LA.P. orphanage in Mexico. Please be generous.
