A. Everything is going on well and the people are setting up their temporary shelters in Seraleng,” Ramatlhape said. “We are hoping that by the end of this week we would have moved around 350 people to Seraleng. In Seraleng, people are putting up their shacks and then they will apply for RDP houses,” he added. Ramatlhape revealed that the major problem that the people in Seraleng are facing is lack of sufficient water. “There is a company that was supposed to have put the pipes that will supply the water but this is yet to happen so this has presented a challenge to the people. “However, for the time being they are being supplied with water by the municipality as a temporary arrangement,” he said. Ramatlhape revealed that Mamojazi Taxi Association had agreed to include the area into their route for their vehicles travelling in and out of the Rustenburg CBD. “Most of the people living here go to work in Rustenburg so we do not want this process to affect their transport logistics. We are also encouraging the people in this area to form their own neighborhood watch so that the crime levels are kept as low as possible,” Ramatlhape said.

page oNe stoRY coNtiNued popuLaR taveRN buRNs dowNRandy Mahuma is still struggling to come to terms with the burning down of his tavern during the early morning hours of 25 February.Randy’s Tavern – a popular watering hole located in the Bester area of Rustenburg – was razed to the ground after a fire broke out at the premises. By the time that workers from the municipality’s fire department managed to extinguish the flames, the damage had already been done. When Leseding News arrived at the scene, a visibly disappointed Mahuma was still counting his losses. “This is a very sad development. I think the fire was caused by an electric fault. I do not know. The truth will come out when the police complete their investigations,” Mahuma said. He estimates his losses to be in the region of R500 000. He said: “At this point it is difficult to say an accurate figure, in terms of what we have lost. However, at the moment it looks like it is in the region of half a million rands. I am happy that no one got hurt because everyone was at home when this happened. “I cannot blame the fire department because by the time we were told about the fire, a lot of damage had already been done.” The police confirmed that they are investigating the incident. They could not immediately ascertain the cause of the blaze.

Magalies Monster BIGGER AND BETTER

Entries are now open for the popular FNB Magalies Monster – a popular extreme sports event that will take place on 24 May in Buffelspoort, just outside Rustenburg. The Magalies Monster encompasses all the key elements of a successful MTB Race, namely; scenic beauty, technicality, toughness and the sense of accomplishing something unique. The event was affectionately named after the “Monster”, which is a 9km gruelling climb up the northern slope of the Magaliesberg, which riders of the 80km route encounter. The event gives riders the opportunity to experience the real beauty of the Magaliesberg Mountains with amazing rock formations and pristine vegetation as well as magnificent views of the Buffelspoort Valley. Riders can expect a real challenge as the terrain of the area lends itself to tough and technical riding. A hugely popular event on

the MTB calendar, conquering the Monster is seen as a real accomplishment in the world of mountain biking. In last year’s event, a record of just over 1600 mountain bike enthusiasts towed the line to take on the Magalies Monster. Both the men’s and women’s 80km races were won by first time contenders, Nico Pfitzenmaier (Team Dorma) and Janine King respectively.According to Pfitzenmaier, the technical riding suited him. “The landscape and scenery is beautiful. Coming into the event I knew that it was organized by Stillwater Sport & Entertainment and I’ve heard that it’s a really nice race. So I wanted to try something new. “The route was a real challenge and included a combination of everything, a real mountain bike race. I felt tremendously strong and really enjoyed the climbs. On the start line I realized that there was quite a strong field. “So I decided that I was just going to have fun, finishing on top was a bonus,” he said.
