• These verbs are in the same family because they are
conjugated the same way.
– Conjugate is an important word here. What does it
mean?
– To conjugate means to change the verb so that it
agrees with the subject.
– English verbs are also conjugated, but not so
elaborately.
• Can you conjugate an English verb?

• Today you are learning how to
conjugate all –er verbs. This
opens a world of linguistic
opportunity. Now you can make
sentences.

For example, aimer becomes aim, jouer becomes jou. Then, write
the endings.

Notice that the endings change. The stem stays the same.
Let’s try. Can you say “she likes to listen to
music.”

• To recap, conjugating verbs is essential. In
6th grade you learned expressions and nouns.
As 7th graders you have entered into much
more sophisticated territory. By conjugating
verbs you can make sentences!
• Just remember the endings!
