SUGGESTED LESSON PLAN IDEAS MEDIA

Revisit the vocabulary of programme (already covered in Key Stage 3);

On an OHP create a table of likes and dislikes for oral work;

Interviews on likes and dislikes;

Use the internet to download lists of the most recent TV programmes and crits of

films;

Revise the past tense;

Linking in with holidays/the weekend. The future tense could also be practised using

the TV guide;

Write two or three sentences about a favourite programme. Pupils should be given

the phrases to help them.

Newspapers could be used for reading comprehension;

Discussion of reading books could be linked to the books they are reading in English

for opinion work.

FREE TIME

This has been covered extensively in Key Stage 3 and so the main aim is to revise the

vocabulary they already know, adding new phrases and at higher level, practising the

perfect tense;

Review the present tense. For Foundation level the ‘Je’ pattern should be sufficient

depending on the group.

POCKET MONEY

reading comprehension to give them the most useful phrases;

Survey on how much money the class gets;

Pie chart;

Role play.

ARRANGING A MEETING

Avantage 4 has some extensive role play work, giving the essential phrases. Pupils

should be made to learn the time phrases here as they often come up in the exam.

For higher level pupils, the imperative structure of ‘Allons’ etc should be practised.

Game with telephone numbers… the pupils have a list of numbers and phone one at

random. A conversation then ensues inviting someone out (much to the hilarity of the

rest of the class!)
