Festival du Voyageur – French DVD & book, Grs 6-10

Visit the Festival du Voyageur in St. Boniface, Manitoba, the French quarter of Winnipeg. This winter festival celebrates the Voyageurs through an educational program and fun activities. Dancing, music, food and history are all part of the Festival. The video is ideal for teachers whose curriculum includes the life of the Voyageurs and Métis traditions.

The French book includes teaching suggestions, script, pre-viewing questions, vocabulary, sentence completions while viewing the video, post-viewing activities, crossword puzzle, topics for research and presentation, answers. Also includes a DVD (appr 20 min) with French narration and optional French sub-titles, English narration and extra scenes (pemmican, the Mad Hatter explanation) in English and French. 2010.

New Orleans Mardi Gras – French DVD & Book, Grs 6-10

The book with video of New Orleans and its famous Mardi Gras is designed exclusively for classroom use. Students will gain an understanding of the history and traditions surrounding Mardi Gras and New Orleans. The video moves from costume design and creation to display in one of the many Mardi Gras parades. In addition to the parade floats with their Krewes, beads and masks, the music, food and culture of the city of New Orleans are also highlighted. The type of revelry often associated with Mardi Gras is not a part of this video.
