'Ö PAG ME LA CH'AG TS'ÄL LO—To Buddha Amitabha I bow down.
As to this method for attaining Amitabha, first take refuge and generate the enlightened attitude then practice
the following visualization and recitation: . ཆོས་རྣམས་ཐམས་ཅད་སོང་པའྱི་ངང་༔ CHÖ NAM T'AM CHE TONG PA'I NGANG
All phenomena are of the nature of emptiness;
KÜN KY'AB TSE WA'I NYING JE GOM
I shall meditate on all encompassing loving compassion.
TONG NYI NYING JE DE YI NGANG
Within this state of empty compassion,
NANG SI DE CHEN SHING GI Ü
in the centre of the universe of appearance and possibility, the buddha realm of Great Bliss,
PE DA'I DEN LA RANG RIG HRIH
on a throne of lotus and moon disc is my own pure awareness as the syllable HRIH
DE LE 'Ö 'TRÖ DÖN NYI DRUB
and light streaming from this accomplishes the twofold goal1.
YONG GYUR DAG NYI CHOM DEN 'DE
Perfectly transformed it becomes the Transcendent and Victorious Lord,
NANG WA TA' YE KU DOG MAR
Amitabha (‘Limitless Light’), his body red in colour,
1. My own and that of others.
2
SHÄL CHIG CH'AG NYI NYAM SHAG TENG
with one face and two hands in the gesture of meditation,
LHUNG ZE DÜ TSI GANG WA NAM
upon which he holds a begging-bowl filled with nectar.
SHAB NYI MIN 'GYUR KYIL TRUNG SHUG
He is seated with his two legs folded in unmoving vajra-posture
CHÖ GÖ NAM SUM KU LA DZE
and the three Dharma robes beautifully adorn his enlightened body
TS'ÄN DANG PE JE YONG SU DZOG
which is utterly perfect in all marks and characteristics,
SANG GYE KU NGA'I DAG NYI CHOG
a supreme embodiment of all five buddha bodies.
NANG LA RANG ZHIN ME PA YI
In the heart-centre of this appearance utterly devoid of any ‘real’ nature,
T'UG KAR DA TENG HRIH MAR POR
upon a moon disc there is a red syllable HRIH
NGAG KYI YE SU KOR WA LE
and, from the mantra's clockwise spinning around this,
TRÖ DE SHEG T'AM CHE KYANG
light streams forth to all sugatas, wherever they are,
GOM PA TA BUR CHEN DRANG TIM
and I imagine that it invites them and they dissolve into me.
DZA HUNG BAM HOH
NGAG LE 'Ö 'TRÖ DÖN NYI JE
Light streaming from the mantra fulfills the twofold goal,
3
ZUG NANG DAG PA 'Ö PAG ME
purified bodily appearance becomes Amitabha,
DRA DRAG NYING PO NGAG KYI DRA
the essence of sound becomes the reverberation of mantra
TOG TS'OG DAG PA YE SHE NGA
and the host of ordinary forms now purified are the five aspects of primordial awareness.
DE WA CHEN PO'I NGANG NE DA
In this state of great bliss, I recite.
With three hundred thousand recitations of the eleven-syllable root mantra OM AMIDHEWA AYU SIDDHI
HUNG HRIH, you will attain accomplishment. Then dissolve the divine form into the non-conceptual state. At the end you should recite prayers of dedication
and aspiration. It will pacify untimely death in this lifetime and later you will seize hold of the liberation path of
great bliss, so put it into practice, fortunate ones. SAMAYA.
Gyalwang Thubten Gyamtso decoded this from the yellow scroll of the revealed treasure of Lerab Lingpa.
