Any eligible non-profit community group or organisation in the Wollongong–Shellharbour Local Government Area may apply. Community Transport: Wollongong–Shellharbour is funded by Transport for NSW under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and the Community Care Support Program (CCSP). Priority will be given to groups and organisations contributing to the aims and objectives of the CHSP and CCSP. Consideration will be given to the needs of other transport disadvantaged community groups and organisations, subject to availability of resources. Yallah maintenance works As part of its commitment to maintaining assets and essential infrastructure, Council plans to undertake important maintenance work to Bridge 2 (a single span bridge) along Yallah Bay Road, Yallah, adjacent to and at the northern end of Tallawarra Power Station. The project includes concrete repairs, cathodic protection and protective coating of the bridge. The improvements will protect the existing road bridge, extend its service life and maintain safe public access to the area. Repairs will commence in Autumn 2017 to coincide with a proposed power station shut down (exact scheduling still to be determined) and take approximately 4 months to complete, subject to tides and weather conditions. During construction, the bridge will be open to traffic, but occasional traffic control may be required. Access to the eastern pedestrian lake-side bridge, cycleway and boat ramp will be maintained throughout. Proposed Reclassification of Community Land at Fairy Meadow which Forms Part of Thomas Dalton Park Council owns the parcels of Community land labelled A, B, C and D on the map below. These parcels form part of Thomas Dalton Park at Fairy Meadow. Council has been requested by the Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort which operates the adjoining tourist resort and caravan park to lease these parcels to it. To enable the lease to proceed, it will be necessary for Council to firstly reclassify these parcels from Community land to Operational land. On the tour you will hear from a local CWA expert on how to make your own jams, pickles and preserves. We will visit a community garden; understand how they work the garden and make rich compost to grow vegies for all to share before doing a tour of our local landfill. Before renovating, you need to be aware of the dangers of asbestos that could be found in and around your home. Asbestos was used in building materials before the mid-1980s. If your house was built or renovated before the mid-1980s, it is likely to contain asbestos cement building materials. Asbestos Awareness month aims to stop people from placing their health and the health of families at risk, with a Get to kNOw Asbestos this November campaign.
