    I. INTRODUCTIONA. Hook: Did you know that da Vinci was left handed?B. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most well-known artist, engineer, and sculptor. The

way Leonardo would think things through is very stunning and shows how much

intelligence he has. His contributions to the world have changed our technology,

    engineering, and simple life.

    C. Leonardo da Vinci impacted the world by inventing many things, and studying anatomyand engineering.

II. BIOGRAPHICAL IMFORMATIONA. Date of Birth, Place: April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy.B. Family Life: Leonardos father married a 16 year old girl named Alberia, who loved

Leonardo but died young. When Leonardo was 16, his father married again, to a 20 year

    old girl named Francesca Lanfredini.

    C. Childhood: He lived with his mom until he was 5, and from then on, he lived in thehouseholds of his father, grandparents & uncle, in the small town of Vinci.

    D. Early Adult Life: Leonardo showed an early interest in nature, and show of artisticability. In 1466 he moved to Florence and entered the workshop of Verrocchio. Early in

his apprenticeship he painted an angel, and perhaps portions of the landscape, in

Verrocchios Baptism of Christ (Early Life and Work, pg. 1). In 1472 he was registered in

the painters guild. Leonardos first painting was the unfinished Adoration of the Magi.

III. FIRST WORLD CONTRIBUTION: Civil MachinesA. Example 1- The parachute.

    1. Over five hundred years ago Leonardo sketched his first parachute. (Civil Machinespg. 5).

    2. The significance of this invention was that, as Leonardo said, A man will be able tothrow himself down from any great height without sustaining any injury.

    B. Example 2- The crane.1. Many of Leonardos civil machines were labor saving devices and these include a

number of cranes and devices to ease the problems of lifting. (Civil Machines pg. 1)

    2. Cranes and similar devices that da Vinci sketched are very useful because they helplift things man cannot do alone and saves labor.

    C. Example 3- Clocks1. Leonardo did not invent the clock, but he made it far more accurate than the clocks

of his time period. (Civil Machines pg. 1)

    2. Clocks need to be accurate and that is why da Vinci improved it even though he onlychanged it a little bit by using separate mechanisms for the hour and the minute.

IV. SECOND WORLD CONTRIBUTION: DrawingsA. Example 1- Architecture

    1. Leonardos notes contain many references to architecture, especially plans forcathedrals. (Drawings pg. 3)

    2. This impacted our present forms of architecture in that we use ideas from hisdesigns and drawings on pillars, beams, and arches.

    B. Example 2- Animals1. It seems that Leonardo always preferred to draw and paint from nature rather than

depending upon his imagination. (Drawings pg. 2)

    2. Leonardo loved animals so much that he decided to become a vegetarian, whichwas very unusual for his time period. He almost never performed experiments on

animals where as he dissected in the region of thirty human bodies.

    C. Example 3- Mathematics1. Leonardo received and informal education in geometry and mathematics. (Drawings

    pg. 3).

    2. His interest in mathematics caused him to develop the idea There is no certaintywhere one cannot apply any of the mathematical sciences. Today this concept is

    universally accepted.

    V. THIRD WORLD CONTRIBUTION: Military MachinesA. Example 1- Catapults

    1. Leonardo designed a large range of catapults, crossbows, and slingshots. (MilitaryMachines pg. 4)

    2. This impacted military ideas of weapons because they are very effective andcreative.

    B. Example 2- Scythed Chariots1. There are several designs for horse-drawn scythed chariots among Leonardos

    sketches. (Military Machines pg. 6).

    2. These sketches gave very good ideas for military strategy and killing effectively.VI. CONCLUSION

    A. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most creative and interesting men because he wasntspecifically an artist but did a great deal of many famous works.

    B. The way da Vinci thought things out is always amazing and he showed that anyone cancome up with an idea.
