Focal Length
The distance between the center of the lens and its focus.
F-Stops
A camera setting corresponding to a f-number.
Lens Speed
Is referred to the maximum aperture diameter, or minimum f-number on a camera.
Iris
Of an aperture, typically that of a lens, open or close in the manner of an iris or iris
diaphragm.
Macro Lenses and Focus
Be able to produce a life size image of an object.
Zoom Lenses
A lens that lets the camera change from a long shot to a close up smoothly.
Wide Angle Lenses
Exaggerates depth and relative size in the photo.
Depth of Field
The difference between the nearest and farthest objects.
Angle of View
Focal-length determines the angle of view seen thru the sensor size.
Zoom and Zoom Ratio
Determine how little or how much of the scene you see when photographing.
Filters
Include polarizing filters to reduce glare and improve saturation, or simple UV/haze filters
to provide extra protection for the front of your lens.
Image Stabilization
To reduce blurring that is created from the cameras movement in an image.
