    2 Introduction

    Intertek Testing Services NA Ltd. (Intertek) has conducted testing for Lenmak ExteriorInnovations Inc. on the StrataClad product in accordance with AAMA 508-07, Voluntary

    Method and Specification for Pressure Equalized Rain Screen Wall Cladding Systems . Thefollowing test methods were followed in this testing:

    ASTM E283-04 (2012), Standard Test Method for Determining Rate of Air LeakageThrough Exterior Windows, Curtain Walls, and Doors Under Specified PressureDifferences Across the Specimen

    ASTM E1233-06, Standard Test Method of Structural Performance of ExteriorWindows, Doors, Skylights, and Curtain Walls by Cyclic Air Pressure Differential

    ASTM E331-00 (2009), Standard Test Method for Water Penetration of ExteriorWindows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls by Uniform Static Air PressureDifference

    AAMA 501.1-05, Standard Test Method for Water Penetration of Windows, Curtain

    Walls and Doors Using Dynamic Pressure.

    This evaluation was completed during the month of February 2013.

    3 Test Samples

    3.1. SAMPLE SELECTION

    The client submitted the exterior metal composite wall panel to the Evaluation Center onJanuary 25, 2013 and was identified as Coquitlam ID# VAN1301251608-001. Samples were notindependently selected for testing.

    3.2. SAMPLE AND ASSEMBLY DESCRIPTION

    The product was identified as the StrataClad Wall Panel, an exterior paneling systemconstructed from custom-manufactured 0.050 in. (1.25 mm) painted aluminum with 70% Kynarfinish. The aluminum panels are filled with 0.8 lb. Icynene foam with a foil paper layer on top.The wall samples were assembled and installed by the client and their installer on February 5,2013 at the Evaluation Center.

    The overall framing dimensions measured 120 in. wide x 120 in. high. The wall was composedof 3 main wall sections, each measuring 120 in. x 40 in. Framing was constructed with 20ga C-channel steel studs (6 in. deep x 2 in. wide) placed 16 in. o/c. Framing was then sheathed with15/32 in. OSB and attached using #8 Tek3 screws. The wall sections were attached together

    using #12 x 1 in. Tek3 screws. The wall was then covered with Tyvek membrane and sealedwith Tuck tape. A lower drip flashing, made from 0.050 in. aluminum, was mounted to the walland fastened every 16 in. o/c with #8 wafer head screws. The starter strip, made from 0.050 in.aluminum, was mounted to the wall and fastened every 16 in. o/c with #8 wafer head screws.The reveal strip, made from 0.050 in. aluminum, was mounted vertically to the wall andcentered, and then fastened every 16 in. o/c with #8 wafer head screws. The corner trim pieces,made from 0.050 in. aluminum, were mounted to the wall vertically and fastened every 16 in. o/cwith #8 wafer head screws. GaskaTape v700 was then applied to the reveal and corner trims toaid in water sealing. The panels are then installed to the wall using 100 plastic horsehoe

    spacers and #12 x 1.5 in. Tek3 screws spaced every 12 in. o/c. The top cap flashing, made from0.050 in. aluminum, was then mounted to the wall and fastened every 16 in. o/c with #8 waferhead screws. Refer to Appendix A for drawings of the tested wall sample.

    4 Testing and Evaluation Methods

    4.1. AIR LEAKAGE

    The Air Leakage tests (Air Infiltration) were conducted in accordance with ASTM E283. The testswere performed using a test pressure of 75 Pa (1.57 psf). As per AAMA 508, air leakage wasinduced in the system to provide a leakage rate of 0.6 L/s*m2 (0.12 cfm/ft2). 196 holes, eachmeasuring 1/8 in. diameter, were drilled into the sheathing to achieve the required air leakage.

    4.2. PRESSURE CYCLING

    The Pressure Cycle test was tested in accordance with ASTM E1233 and evaluated to AAMA508-07. The test was preformed at a specified pressure differential of 240 Pa (5 psf) to 1200 Pa(25 psf) for a minimum of 100 three-second cycles.

    4.3. WATER PENETRATION STATICThe Static Water Penetration test was tested in accordance with ASTM E331. This test wasperformed at the specified pressure differential of 720 Pa (15 psf) and a water spray rate of atleast 204 L/m2per hour (5.0 U.S. gal/ft2per hour). The test was run for fifteen minutes, duringwhich the pressure and water spray were continuously applied.

    4.4. WATER PENETRATION DYNAMIC

    The Dynamic Water Penetration test was tested in accordance with AAMA 501.1. The test wasperformed at the specified pressure differential of 720 Pa (15 psf), or 120 kph (75 mph) windspeed equivalent, generated using a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Aircraft Engine, and a waterspray rate of at least 204 L/m2per hour (5.0 U.S. gal/ft2per hour). This test consisted of fifteenminutes, during which the pressure and water spray were continuously applied.

    6 Testing and Evaluation Resul ts

    6.1. AIR LEAKAGE

    Air leakage test data is indicated in the following table:

    Test Pressure for all samples: 75 Pa

    Overall Area of each sample: 9.42 m2(101.42 ft2)

    Air Leakage: 0.635 L/s*m2 (0.125 cfm/ft2)

    6.2. PRESSURE CYCLING

    During the Pressure Cycling at a pressure differential from 240 Pa (5 psf) to 1200 Pa (25 psf) for100 cycles the systems lag times was below the required 0.08 seconds and the differentialbetween the cavities and cyclic wind pressure did not exceed 50% of the maximum testpressure. All samples tested met the requirements as specified by the client for Pressure

    Equalization and as per AAMA 508-07.

    6.3. STATIC WATER PENETRATION

    During the 15-minute test period, using a pressure differential of 720 Pa (15 psf), there was nowater leakage observed through the tested sample. The sample met the requirements asspecified by the client for Static Water Penetration and as per ASTM E331.

    6.4. DYNAMIC WATER PENETRATION

    During the 15-minute test period, using a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Aircraft Engine to generate apressure differential of 720 Pa (15 psf), no water leakage was observed through the testedsample. The sample met the requirements as specified by the client for Dynamic Water

    Penetration.

    7 Conclusion

    The StrataClad Wall System tested and described in this report has met the Air Leakage,Pressure Equalization, Static Water Penetration, and Dynamic Water Penetration test

    requirements specified by the client.

    The conclusions of this test report may not be used as part of the requirements for Intertek productcertification. Authority to Mark must be issued by Intertek for a product to become certified byIntertek.
