A DAY WITHOUT WATER

This morning Vilém got up. It was a weekend but his uncle needed him to help on the farm. Vilém went to the kitchen and he wanted to make himself some tea, but…what?! Water didn’t run!!! Oh no, he would have to wait and have tea with his uncle. Then he went to the bathroom, put toothpaste on the toothbrush and brushed his teeth. He had a mouth full of toothpaste, but …NO!!! Water didn’t run!!!

Vilém was twelve and he was from a village in the Czech Republic. It was autumn and all week it was rainy but today was hot and dry. All the flowers got dry and when Vilém came to the lake… there was no water, only dead fish, mud and sand. What happened??? He was dirty, thirsty, he had a mouth full of toothpaste and he was angry, and sad.

He came onto uncle’s farm and he saw his aunt crying. “Vilém, something terrible has happened. Here is no water! We haven’t got any water for the animals nor for the flowers. Our neighbours haven’t got any water, neither…”, she said. “What shall we do?”

The afternoon was very hot. Usually they would go swimming, but that day they couldn’t. Everybody was thirsty but had nothing to drink. They were tired, thirsty, dirty and sad, and…

… and Vilém woke up. Fortunately, that was only a dream. Now he could drink and swim in the lake and there were nice flowers everywhere… and happy people, too.

In fact, in such a day, all the fish would die as well as many other animals. So, let’s save water so that such days will never happen…
