Project Plan:Project topic:Kelvin Grove Village is fast emerging as a covetable postcode within Brisbane. The Village has emerged through a plan to create a sustainable, multi-purpose destination and fills the growing need within the Brisbane landscape for a destination that attracts the creative souls of the city. Kelvin Grove village is the place where those who enjoy new experiences in the arts, culture and technology flock. It is where those seeking a unique living environment with inspiring entertaining are finding home within this open and meaningful intercultural community.

This design portfolio aims at attracting more people to the precinct. We want to achieve: 1. more weekly visitors to the markets every Saturday 2. an increased awareness that the KGUV is there just off Kelvin Grove Road 3. more customers to the shops and services available at KGUV 4. an ongoing strong relationships between KGUV and QUT

Target audience analysis:1.QUT studentsKelvin Grove village is just near QUT Kelvin Grove students village, and KGUV has a partnership with QUT. So there is no doubt that QUT students will be the first target audience. This is a very youthful group of people between 18-25 years old, and they like creative things and having fun. Plus there are many international students who live in Kelvin Grove students village, so this group of people have diverse culture backgrounds, and they may be willing to be marketeers and invigorate KGUV.

2.Local Residents of Kelvin Grove and its neighborhoodAs Kelvin Grove village has a market every Saturday, so we want to attract more and more residents to come and shopping at KGUB. This group of people may want to do their groceries at KGUV and they often come as a family unit. They may also be interested in the art or other events happening in KGUV.

3.Tourists who travel to BrisbaneWe want to make the Kelvin Grove village as one of the Brisbane city cards. (Like Southbank, Fortitude Valley etc.) Tourists may come from other places in Australia as well as the world.

They are of different ages and backgrounds, but they all want to experience more Brisbane, and they are also the potential consumers.

Where will the design be published?1.Universe MagazineUniverse Magazine is the only student-run magazine at QUT and it is distributed through stands at Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point.

2.QUT Guild websiteQUT Guild provides services, support, representation, events and resources to help QUT students through their studies and connect them with good times on campus.

3. Billboards off the road

4. mX newspaperWell established as the only daily commuter newspaper in Australia, mX has attracted a loyal readership of 663,000^ people daily.

5.Bmag magazineBmag.com.au, together with bmag print edition provides Brisbane’s best source of lifestyle news online, on mobile and to your door, bringing all of your favourite lifestyle news to life.

6.Style magazine BrisbaneStyle Magazines: a Vibrant, Monthly Magazine featuring Fashion, Food, Beauty, Travel & Entertainment for Brisbane, South East Queensland & Beyond.

7.Lonely Planet - Brisbane

...and loads more! (depending on the budget)

Rationale

I choose to mainly use magazines and other print media to publish the design, because I think they are the most straightforward ways for people to get to know about Kelvin Grove Village. I focus on QUT and other local lifestyle magazines to publish the design, because people read those magazines are the target audience. People who read local lifestyle magazines seek good food to eat, fun things to do in the city. They would like to receive advice from magazines. Lonely planet has a good reputation among self travelers and backpackers. If the design could be published in that book, it will certainly help to increase visitors a lot. However, besides those channels mentioned about, I will also focus on other media channels. This will be further explained in the communications resource part of this portfolio.

Style GuideFonts:Segoe Print for headings

Colour Palette

Calibri for body text

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

This san-serif font is fun, cute, c lean and easy to read. It looks good on print or screen. It works well together with Segoe Print.

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPPQRSTUVWXYZ

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

1234567890,./!~?"_____________________________

Segoe Print is a dynamic font, and it can show the creativity of KGUV. This font is easy to read, and it suits the logo of KGUV well.

This is the colour pateltte for this design portfolio. I choose orange, green, white, and grey as the major colours. Orange is bold and lively, it is full of energy and it cathes people's eyes easily. Green represents hope and creativity. Green is also very friendly to eyes. Grey works perfectly with orange

and green. In general, this hue looks lively, creative, and visual-friendly.

This logo can be used for publicity of Kelvin Grove Village.

It should not be edited, decoloured or distorted.

This logo should be used in a porper or large size, and the texts in this logo should be clearly seen.

Here are some examples of the wrong usage.

Magazine Spread

The magazine spread for Kelvin Grove village aims at being printed on a lifestyle magazine and attracting more people to come to KGUV. In this double page spread, I use the logo and road sign of Kelvin Grove village to make the theme stand out. For the cross page picture, I choose to use this black and white photo and I think it is a good background for the heading. Plus, it looks artsy and simple, I think it can attract target audience’s attention.

Communications Resource - Postcards

The postcard is an ideal communications resource for the promotion of Kelvin Grove Urban Village. By giving people free postcards, it's a good way to raise awareness about KGUV without being like an advertisement that may be too straight. The postcard is simply composed of a photo, a logo of KGUV and the QR code which leads to our website. The choice of photo should be creative and fun to make the postcard look more like a piece of photography artwork rather than an advertisement. Here are some examples of the KGUV postcards...
