COURSE&INFORMATION$$
PKG/ME 498: Special Topics – Transport Packaging
Dynamic theory, shock fragility, cushioning, distribution hazards, product damage potentials,
pre-shipment tests, and hands-on lab experiments. Prerequisite: Junior or Senior
standing and permission of Department Chair. 3 credits.
PKG 496: Special Topics – Pre-shipment Tests
This class prepares students for Level 1 (Technician) test of the Certified Packaging Lab
Professionals (CPLP) program given by the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA). 1
credit.
*Being a certified packaging lab
technician increases the chance of being employed part-time or full-time in the packaging industry.

Spring 2014. Note: A student may choose to take either the 3-hr version or 1-hr version. For those who need to get credit for an elective, they would take the 3-hr version. For those who do not need credit for elective but want to travel, they should take 1-cr version. Also, some will take one of these two courses as their regular load, so no extra tuition is needed (Evening and part time students will pay $200 per credit hour).
NOT$included$in$cost:$O Lunches daily O Some dinners O Spending money O Airline tickets *Trip cancellation insurance is recommended, but not required, in case of an emergency on your part as CBU cannot refund the money once it is committed to the trip vendors. There are many companies on the internet that provide this service or your personal insurance company may offer such coverage. While CBU has no connection with any such company, some previous students have used STA travel and were pleased with it.
