Spring is the season of germination for new artistic styles for artists and art enthusiasts alike. LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts is germinating our own artistic display of new art to present during the 11th Annual LeMoyne Chain of Parks Festival. This juried art event invigorates our artistic juices and pol-linates styles with different artists from across the country.
We are able to pull off this festival only by the indefatigable efforts of specially committed volunteers who dedicated their considerable talents to create one of the best parties in Tallahassee. It is no surprise that this letter replicates our honoree’s from years past. Charles Tunnicliff and Kelly Dozier are our Festival Committee Co-Chairs. Charles is the master of logistics and Kelly worked tirelessly on developing the business and individual relationships that financially sup-port this festival; Janelle Pepe and Macy Miller, PR and Marketing Chairs got the word out; and Sheri Sanderson, LeMoyne’s Event Manager, who coordinated all of the mov-ing parts on behalf of Lemoyne, have all done an outstand-ing job. Much gratitude goes to Kidd Group and Mary Liz Moody who provided many hours of professional services in developing new branding and all graphic design elements for the festival. It is only possible to successfully execute an event of this magnitude with the help of more than a hundred volunteers.
As you stroll through the Chain of Parks, please take the time to visit the Lemoyne Gallery on Gadsden Street and see the “LeMoyne Inspires” Exhibition displaying works by teachers and artists of LeMoyne’s education program. We are still here because of your support. Please renew your membership and if you’re not already a member of LeMoyne, become member and be a part of Tallahassee’s 48 year tra-dition in the visual arts, Creating Community Through Art.
WE THANK OUR ADVERTISERS AND SPONSORS who support the arts in our community through supporting the festival. This year, we especially appreciate our advertisers and sponsors for their dedication to preserving cultural offer-ings in our community in spite of the difficult financial climate we are all experiencing.
Thank you for visiting the LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festi-val. I know you will enjoy this wonderful weekend in Tallahas-see and know we will continue to grow with your participation and absolutely surpass your expectations.

Robin RodgersCeramic artist/potter Robin Rodgers was raised in Chattahoochee, Florida, near the banks of the Apalachicola River. As a boy, he was intrigued by old bottles, arrowheads and Indian pottery that he found near his home. His interests in art, archaeology and nature inspired him to complete his Bachelors Degree in Art from the University of Montevallo in 1984 and Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Florida State University in 1989.
In 1995, Robin established his Rabbit Pond studio. He teaches classes, workshops and hosts a pottery camp for kids each summer. Robin enjoys researching ancient techniques and processes of pottery making, translating these findings into his current contemporary creations. His personal touch is revealed through an array of surface textures on wheel-thrown forms, including etchings,
geometric carvings and sculpted appendages, most
often depicting animals, birds and natural forms. Robin’s work is represented in private, corporate and museum collections in the United States and abroad, including the Mobile Museum of Art, Huntsville Museum of Art, State of Florida, The Nature Conservancy, Historic Bok Sanctuary, Archaeological Institute of West Florida, Apalachee Indian tribe and in art galleries across the country. In addition, Robin creates replicas of 17th century Spanish & Native American pottery for the San Luis Archaeological site in Tallahassee, Florida and has an installation of over 200 tiles depicting the flora and fauna of Florida at the historic Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida. His work is featured in the March/April 2006 issue of Florida Wildlife magazine and in Lark Book’s 500 Animals in Clay.
Process:Robin uses many firing processes, most notably the 16th century Japanese technique of Raku firing. In this process, pieces are removed individually from the hot kiln with tongs and smoked to darken the random crackled patterns. As it cools, each piece develops its own unique pattern of glaze that contributes the overall impact. Raku is porous and is intended for enjoyment as art and its beautiful decorative quality.

The History of LeMoyne Center for the Visual ArtsLeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts is named after the French artist Jacques le Moyne de Morgues who accompanied the second French expedition to Florida under Rene de Landonniere in the year 1565, becoming the first western artist to paint Florida subjects. Four hundred years later, when the first art association in Florida’s capital city was formed, it seemed appropriate to name it in honor of the first artist upon its shores.
Currently housing main galleries in the historic Meginniss-Munroe house (c. 1854) LeMoyne is the first non-profit, community based visual arts center in the Big Bend area of North Florida. LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts was founded in 1963 by community leaders as a venue for fine art exhibitions and art education activities dedicated to Creating Community Through Art. LeMoyne serves the community by offering quality art exhibitions of local and regional appeal, offering diverse art education and outreach programs, and art events for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Please visit our gallery inside this historic home, located at 125 N. Gadsden St., just past the non-profit booths at the Festival. Entry is free to all during our Chain of Parks Art Festival.

LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival Kids ZoneThis year our festival Kids Zone is bigger and better than ever before! Thanks to our Kids Zone sponsors, Target and Klown Kapers, children are able to take part in a number of make-and-take art projects under the Kids Zone tent, located along Gadsden Street across from the LeMoyne gallery.
Some of the art activities will include; screen printing on recycled paper and covering the streets in sidewalk chalk! Materials for the projects have been provided by Target and the children can take what they make home with them. BJ the Clown and the rest of the Klown Kapers gang will also be offering fun and entertainment for the children. “We are providing face painting, balloon art, temporary air brush tattoos, quick sketch, and glitter tattoos!”, said BJ enthusiastically.
BJ’s Amazing Face-Painting takes this art form to a whole new level with high quality non-metallic neon colors, brilliant primary colors, and subdued pastel colors like no others available in today’s market. The application and blending techniques of the artists create face-painting masterpieces that you will want to capture in pictures and enjoy for years.
All children’s activities are free of charge. Bring your children down to the art festival and give them a chance to get involved in some very fun art!
Thinking about what your kids might do this summer? LeMoyne offers a full-day or half-day summer camp
experience for kids between 6 up to Teens.
Check out the camp sessions schedule on page 7 of this magazine and stop by the Kids Zone for more
information or to sign up you children for a summer of fun and creativity.

The emerging artists program at the LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival was started in 2010 with the goal of encouraging participation in the world of outdoor festivals by providing the opportunity to experience the application process and participation in LCoPAF at a reduced cost to the emerging artists. This program is limited to 10 participants who are selected by the Festival Committee.
The program is designed specifically for outstanding artists who have never exhibited or sold their work at an outdoor festival. Artists who are just beginning their careers in the art world are encouraged to apply. The artists chosen have an opportunity to sell their work, meet other artists and participate in a nationally recognized festival.

Original Art Silent Auction to Benefit LeMoyne Center for the Visual ArtsDebby and Randy Brienen, both Tallahassee artists serving as Artists’ Representatives on the LeMoyne Board, have graciously donated an original piece of art each for a silent auction to be held during the 11th Annual LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival. The silent auction will be held at the Festival Souvenir tent and will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday 4/16 and close at 4:30 pm on Sunday 4/17. Debra Brienen’s biography:Debra was born in central Illinois and has lived in Tallahassee, Fl. for more than 25 years. She is married to Randy (also an artist) and has raised three children. She is a self-taught artist working in acrylic. She has drawn and painted all her life either inspirationally or by commission. Her most recent venture, Painted Memories, offers paintings developed from her client’s travel photos or home landscape photos intended to preserve places or events on canvas to grace the walls of home or office.
Her work typically expresses the joy and happiness she finds in living. Her work favors idyllic moments, real or remembered, home landscape portraits such as your personal residence, childhood home, or beach house, historical renditions, nature landscapes, and cottage florals.
She has exhibited in many juried shows, and was chosen to be the featured artist for Lemoyne’s 2008 Chain of Parks art festival in Tallahassee. She currently exhibits in many local venues. Debra, a cancer survivor, donates a portion of each sale to the prevention and treatment of cancer.
Randy Brienen’s biography:Randy was born in central Illinois and has lived in Tallahassee, FL for more than 25 years. He is married to Debby (also an artist) and has raised three children. He is a mainly self-taught artist working in acrylic. He has drawn and painted on and off
