1. INTRODUCTIONThe Lely Splendimo 320 MC is a mower-to cut and condition fodder crops.

The range of operation of the Lely Splendimo 320 MC is between ± 20° fromthe horizontal (relative to the tractor), and can be driven at speeds up to 20km/h. Central suspension of the Splendimo enables the Lely Splendimo 320MC to follow ground contours accurately.

An anti-shock device protects the machine from damage if it hits obstaclesduring mowing.

A headstock connects the mower to the tractor. The headstock containscatergory III double linkage pins to adjust the position of the mower behind thetractor.

The Lely Splendimo 320 MC has:

• A cutter bar• An impeller conditioner unit• A hydraulic control system• An adjustable ground-pressure relief system.

Various optional extras are also available. Refer to Optional Extras LelySplendimo 320 MC (page 1-3).

1.1 Cutter Bar

The cutter bar contains the mower units. The modular design of the cutter barenables quick and easy replacement of mower units and drive shafts if theyare damaged. The mower units are connected to each other by a rod.

The first mower unit is driven from the top. A spring-steel shaft then transfersthe drive from the first mower unit to the other mower units. All mower unitsare directly driven by this shaft.

The mower units turn in pairs, either clockwise or counterclockwise.

The mower knives are connected to the mower units by the Splendimo Clipquick-release system. This enables easy replacement of mower knives.

1.2 Impeller Conditioner Unit

The impeller conditioner unit removes patches of the waxy layer on the stems. It can spread the crop in a wide swath behind the mower or lay the crop behindthe mower in a narrow swath. This keeps the contact between the crop andthe field to a minimum, and it is not necessary to drive on the cut crop.

The impeller conditioner unit operates across almost the complete cuttingwidth. It has:

• A rotor with impact-resistant synthetic flails• A metal hood with swath boards• A crop inlet plate to adjust the conditioning intensity.

The position of the crop inlet plate can be adjusted to give more clearancebetween the crop inlet plate and the conditioner rotor. This is useful whenworking with extreme crop conditions.

An optional drive pulley for the conditioner rotor changes the rotor speed.

1.3 Hydraulic System

The hydraulic system raises and lowers the cutter bar.

When the hydraulic system is set to the floating position the cutter bar canclosely follow ground contours.

The ground-pressure relief system makes sure the cutter bar follows theground contours without damaging the crop and transfers some of theSplendimo weight to the tractor.

It can be adjusted by regulating the pressure of the hydropneumatic springsystem.

1.4 Optional Extras Lely Splendimo 320 MC

1.4.1 Wear PlatesWear plates can be installed on the bottom of the skids to reduce wear of theskids. The wear plates are available in thicknesses of 4 mm or 8 mm.

Figure 2. Wear Plate and Topping Skid

1.4.2 Topping SkidsTopping skids can be installed on the bottom of the skids to raise the mowingheight approximately 3 cm. This is used for topping or when the mower is usedon rough ground, and reduces damage to the cutter bar by stones and otherdebris.

If topping skids are installed, position 2 or 3 of the parking jack must be used(fig. 9, page 3-3).

1.4.3 AgitatorsAgitators can be installed on the mower discs to improve the crop flow acrossthe cutter bar in certain circumstances.

Figure 3. Agitator

1.4.4 Spreading KitThe spreading kit contains spreading fins that can be installed on theconditioner of the mower. This spreads the crop across the full width of thecutter bar. Depending on weather conditions it can save a tedding operation. In some conditions it is sufficient to install the big fin.

1.4.5 Crop DividerA crop divider pushes the crop that has not been mown to the side of the mowerand prevents an accumulation of grass on the mower.

This is useful when the crop is extremely long or when the crop lies down.

Figure 5. Crop Divider

1.4.6 Additional V-belt PulleyThe standard rotor speed of the Lely Splendimo 320 MC is 890 or 1000 rpm.The pulley of the conditioner rotor can be changed to change the speed of theconditioner rotor. This allows the rotor speed of the conditioner to be adjustedfor less intensive conditioning or improved crop transport.
