The Pérez Simón Collection is one of the greatest private collections of Victorian masterpieces in the world. Based in Mexico, the collection has never before been seen in Europe. Through 2013-14 the most significant works from the collection will be shown at three prestigious museums in European capitals: the Jacquemart- André Museum in Paris, the Chiostro Del Bramante in Rome and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.

There is now the opportunity to bring the exhibition to Leighton House Museum in London, as the only UK venue for the show. Featuring paintings by all the great names of Victorian art, including Leighton himself, Alma-Tadema, Millais, Burne-Jones, Waterhouse and Albert Moore, this fabulous collection will attract national interest from the public and media fascinated by the work of the Pre-Raphaelite painters and their Victorian contemporaries.

We are offering opportunities to support the exhibition and provide your clients with a magical evening at Leighton House.

The profile and reputation of Pre- Raphaelite and other painters of the Victorian era has grown steadily over recent years. The art of the period was exceptionally rich and diverse, and the elevated status and reputation of the leading artists of the day is unique in the history of British art.

A total of 50 works are included in the exhibition, which consists of exceptional pictures by many of the most prominent and celebrated artists of the period.

A particular focus is on High Victorian classicism and aestheticism: the representation of beauty for its own sake, which was one of the defining themes in the art of the period.

Frederic, Lord Leighton, Crenaia, c.1880

Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s Roses of Heliogabalus is widely regarded as one of his greatest works and was one of the most popular paintings of the Victorian period. Commissioned by the engineer Sir John Aird for the large sum of £4,000, it was Alma-Tadema's only entry in the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition of 1888. Based on a probably invented episode in the life of the Roman emperor Heliogabalus (204–222), the emperor is portrayed attempting to smother his unsuspecting guests in a torrent of rose-petals released from false ceiling panels. For the first time the work will be shown together with its oil sketch.
