Catherine and Ezra have been chosen to represent Montessori Charter School in the 42nd Annual Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Student Art Exhibition. Catherine and Ezra will each have paintings on display from February 23rd until March 31st. Catherine's work is based on a Claude Monet painting, "The Isle Grande Jatte". It shows a distant background in oil pastel with a foreground of painted, summer trees. Ezra's painting demonstrates the use of value in cool colors. He included snowy, winter pine trees over the painting. Only two students could be chosen to represent Montessori. Great work, Catherine and Ezra! ~Ms. Lucareli

Montessori Moment

Did You Know?

A Montessori teacher is sometimes referred to as a guide, rather than a teacher, and this reflects her non-traditional role. A Montessori teacher’s job is to observe the children and introduce them to the academ-ic materials at just the right time. She is of-ten hard to find in the classroom, as she is generally working one-on-one with a child, rather than standing at the front of the room talking to the whole group. Maria Montesso-ri saw the role of the teacher as providing children with tools for learning, rather than pouring knowledge and facts into them.

Information from the School Nurse:

Measles Outbreak in Several States

Several states including Washington, New York, and Illinois have on-going measles outbreaks. Measles is highly contagious. It “can spread to others through the air when an infected person coughs. It lingers in the air for some time afterward. It is so infectious that, according to the CDC, “if one person has it, 90 percent of the people close to that person who are not immune will also become infected.”

The measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is the best way to protect individuals. Two doses of MMR vaccine provide 97% protection against measles.

Mrs. Boodle’s class made Valentine’s for their parents and wrote a poem. They

are studying poetry in class and sewed on buttons as part of practical life.
