Participants in Leiden University’s first five MOOCs are between 14 and 84 years old, with very diverse backgrounds. They come from 186 different countries. Since June 2013 we have issued 9,000 certificates. With Leiden MOOCs we have reached more than 250,000 interested people so far, of which one third from upcoming economies. In total, 4,700 chose a verified certificate track of which 1,100 received financial aid. About 22% took a MOOC to improve career perspectives.
