Filing Service Manual Piper 100/200 New Spare Parts for Piper 100/200

New Line Drive Assembly

In Service News 36/2006 we announced a line mechanism improvement. On a few instruments we still have seen a “line stuck” problem, even with a correct pin length. This is why we have made additional improvements. The bracket 749441 (line bias spring) is now longer thus preventing the pin from blocking: Old version New version

We also had to modify the casting part of the line drive assembly 747255 as indicated in the picture below. The change was necessary to provide clearance for the longer bracket 749441.

Page 14: leica geosystem laser piper service manual

2/2

Our production department will implement these improvements as soon as possible but with immediate effect all open and future orders for such spare parts will be filled with new version parts. Existing stocks of old line drive assembly 747255 and bracket 749441 (line bias spring) held at Service Centres are not to be used for service and repair activities any longer. Therefore, all such stocks need to be scrapped Since the new bracket 749441 (line bias spring) cannot be used on old style line drive assemblies, always the complete line drive assembly (art. no. 747 255 & art. no. 749 441) needs to be replaced. If a unit with new revision line drive assembly is found to have a bent bracket 749441, but has no functional issues (line drive functions properly), only the bracket 749441 needs to be replaced!

New Article Numbers for Main Board

New numbers have been created for the main board and with immediate effect all boards will be delivered without the display assembly mounted to the main board. Therefore, if a main board needs to be changed, the display assembly needs to be re-used with the new main board. This will help to lower repair costs whenever a main boards needs to be exchanged. Below there is an overview with all the relevant article numbers for the main board and display assembly:

New Piper 100 / 200 Firmware 747138_F

The purpose of the Service News is to collect a summary of these changes,

highlight their importance and notify service centers of the updates required

when a unit comes to your office for service.

The revision corrects a battery capacity error which became an issue in the

Japanese market where they routinely allow the Piper to stay in sleep mode for

extended periods. This should not be an issue in other countries where keeping

the Piper in an extended sleep mode would be very much an exception.

All units returned for service must be updated to the latest software revision

level in order to ensure product reliability once it has been returned to the

field.

Should your customer have any issues with their Piper, we have included the

approximate serial numbers and the date of incorporation of the changes listed

below for your reference.

Release Date – 10 February 2007

P100-01926

P200-01638

Comments regarding software Revision F:

1. Standby current correction for battery status display. The battery status was not updated in some case and this is now fixed.

2. Additional ID's for battery data. This commands where needed for point 1

In order to be able to profit from these improvements and the bug fixes, we

strongly recommend to upgrade all Piper who come to Service to the

latest version 747138_F.

Even if the SW upgrade does not have an impact on the Piper, we recommend

that you do an outgoing test with the Service SW and document the serial

number as well as any change of laser output.

No general product recall action is considered necessary!

If you are not sure which SW version is actually loaded on your Piper, you can

check it with the Service SW or over the display in the Service Screen in the

Dealer Level Access mode (refer to ComRep 29-2006)

This software change is unrelated to the issue with the original chargers

shipped that did not correctly update the capacity register when the Piper

batteries were fully charged.

All the GKL211 chargers (734752) beginning with S.No. 0116 (November

2006) have improved software that automatically resets the battery capacity

register in the battery when the battery is allowed to reach a full charge.

Remote Function

We where informed from market that there have been a very few Pipers with a

Remote problem. On some units, the remote function in the front or in the rear

was switched off by SW or did not worked at all because of a problem of the

IR board.

Please make sure that you check all Pipers who come to Service that the

Remote is fully functional:

1. Check on "Read Out" that both IR Remote functions are set to 1 (see

picture).

If not use the “SET/33/1” and “SET/34/1” command in the terminal

window of the service program to enable the remote functions. 33 IrEnableFront 1 Enable/disable front IR receiver (1 = on)

34 IrEnableRear 1 Enable/disable rear IR receiver (1 = on)

2. Do a functional check with a remote as shown on the attached page

“Functional Test of Piper 100/200 Remote Function”

New Spare Parts

After we got some complaints about membrane switch flex cable problems we

introduced the following parts as spare parts. We will continue to work to

improve the flex cable as well.

Use 737924 DYMAX 10028 UV cure adhesive or similar to seal the

membrane switch cable opening on the housing from the insight after

replacing the membrane switch.

Functional Test of Piper 100/200 Remote Function 1. After you have checked on “first read out” that both the ID33 IrEnableFront and ID34 IrEnableRear is enabled

(1 = on), switch on the Piper 100/200.

2. Cover both, the front and rear end windows, to make sure the two briquettes will cover the openings perfectly

(use the remote plumb button so you can see it easily if there would be a reaction).

3. Open the front and use the plumb button again to test that the front side is working >> If so the front remote

works okay (hold the remote in a 45° angle as shown on the picture to prevent the remote signal reflects inside

the unit and hits the rear receiver)

4. close the front and test again with the sleep button that both is closed perfectly

5. open the rear end and test again with the sleep button that the rear is working properly >> If so the rear remote

works okay.

Troubleshooting: If ID33 is enabled (on = 1) and if front remote is not functional, the IR Receiver Board 749223 might be defect, if

ID34 is enabled (on = 1) and the rear remote is not functional, the Display Assembly 755567 might be defect.

Market Introduction Pipe Laser PIPER 100 and PIPER 200

Martet Introduction Pipe Laser Piper Series We are pleased to present the new Piper pipe lasers for alignment of sanitary and gravity flow pipe lines. With the introduction of the Piper products we have now successor products for the 6700 series of pipe lasers that have been phased out. The Piper was developed purposefully for the rugged construction jobsites, and is the most compact pipe laser available on the world market today. There are two models or variants available:

• The Piper 100 - the standard unit with all basic functions • The Piper 200 – the same as the Piper 100 but with Alignmaster,

the patented automatic target recognition function that finds the center of the target for second day setups.

The Piper 100 and Piper 200 replaces the following instruments: Model 6700 series: 6755 - 6760 - 6770 - 6775 - 6790 – 6795. More information can be found in the following Communication to Representatives from BA Infrastructure & Engineering: • ComRep 26/06: Product Introduction – The Piper 100 and Piper 200 • ComRep 27/06: Construction Catalogue with new Piper 100/200 • ComRep 29/06: Piper Service Screens • ComRep 30/06: Piper Price Correction in Survey Solutions Price List It is planned for the Piper to be integrated into our Service Training course module "Construction laser". If necessary, we will offer additional courses only for Piper. In order to be able to plan for the necessary training courses, we ask you to register your training requirements by completing an on-line registration on our CSS Web Pages. Appropriate courses will then be offered, based on the received registrations. http://service.leica-geosystems.com/service/en/lgs_37475.htm Only trained and authorized service technicians may perform Service work on Piper products.

2(2) Market Introduction Piper 100 / 200

The service documentation and service SW for the Piper products will be distributed in the Service Training, and will also be made available on the CSS Web Pages for downloading. Documentation and Service SW are protected with a separate Dongle bit. Only authorized Service Centers with trained personnel are granted access to the Dongle bit. Since, at present, the global service infrastructure is not yet in place, and it is desirable to learn as much information about the performance of the Piper products as rapidly as possible, it has been decided that during the first months the service support will be implemented in only three locations. If technical problems with a Piper product arise, please contact one of the following locations:
