Message from Ranae Frazier, General Manager

The first notice of the annual meeting and election of directors was mailed to your

address on record Friday, February 3rd. If you did not receive your notice please contact

the office to receive a copy. The intent to run for the four (4) open the office on the

Master Board and three (3) open positions on the Golf Committee is Friday, March 3rd at

12 PM. The ballot positions will be drawn at 1 PM on March 3rd

It was my pleasure to attend Club Managers Association of America’s 90th World

Conference on Club Management and Club Business Expo held in Orlando this last week.

The Conference offered a variety of more than 70 educational sessions and peer

networking events. Also a preview of the latest products and services available in the

industry at the Club Business Expo. I focused on leadership classes, delivering great

services, clubhouse renovation projects, club governance, technology, best board practices,

improving communications, and legal issues with embedded stories and resolutions. It was

uplifting to see that a lot of what we do at Legends Golf and Country Club is on the cutting

edge of member service and offerings. Hearing the issues and problems that other clubs

worldwide face that are no different than ours.

Dan Thurmon kicked off the opening session who is a recognized expert in

delivering peak performances using comedy, juggling, and acrobatics. He believes that we

will never achieve “perfect balance” and should, instead, learn to embrace uncertainty and

initiate positive changes that lead to growth to enhance our life experiences. My take away

– Look Up - Lean Forward and Embrace the off balance moments. That’s what life is all

about.

The closing session speaker was Ben Saunders. Ben was the first person ever to

successfully retrace the steps of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and walk unsupported from

the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back. Since Scott’s failed expedition 100

years ago, 12 people have been on the Moon, 500 in space, and 5,000 have climbed

Everest. Only Saunders and his companion have achieved the 1,800 mile trek, 105 day

expedition. This is equivalent to running 69 marathons back-to-back. In his speech I

quote “We can all accomplish great feats through ambition, passion, stubbornness, and

refusal to quit”. If you dream something hard enough, it does indeed come to pass.” His

speech was very inspiring and at the same time emotional as he discussed the limits of self

-belief, human potential, along with spectacular visuals.

The conference was a sound investment of my time and club resources resulting in

both tangible personal and professional benefits. Based on these sessions coupled with

Message from the GM continued…

industry networking opportunities, I can confidently validate several of our existing management practices and discov-

ered new ideas that we can immediately implement. It was truly an honor and privilege to represent Legends Golf and

Country Club at this event, and I thank you for the opportunity.

Question of the week: What is happening in the restaurant? Where are all of our staff? Answer: There are sev-

en (7) full time server/buss staff, the rest of the server staff are seasonal from October through April. The dining room

program is currently in transition. The expectations of staff are to be at work on time and work as a team to provide the

member services that are expected. Unfortunately some of the staff were not wanting to go on the journey that the

TEAM is headed. Restaurants and clubs within the area are in major shortfalls trying to get staff, and are willing to pay

higher wages to have an employee move from their current position. I apologize if you have experienced anything less

than an exceptional dining experience. Your support during this time, as Henry moves us to the next level is appreciated.

Till next week….

“Portrait of a Bride, an Evolving Silhouette” A glimpse into the life of the American Woman

As seen through a Bride’s eyes, Victorian Era to Present Day

Leigh Anne Brown, Presenter

Monday, February 27, 2017 / 11:30 AM

Program info: "Portrait of a Bride, an Evolving Silhouette" focuses on the ever-evolving history of the modern

American Woman, Victorian Era to Present (We've come a long way, Baby). It looks at a snapshot of each woman/decade on her wedding day as a specific time period and uses the gowns as the

vehicle to discuss each era. The program consists of a display of 20-30 antique, vintage and contemporary wedding gowns presented on dress forms in sequential order. During the course of the program, substantial emphasis is given to the history of educational opportunities, social

events, economic boom times and crises as well as the political changes that are surrounding each "modern" bride in her day. It is a program that celebrates the growth of the American Woman as she has evolved through the years. Along the way, we also look at the textiles and construction methods used as they are influenced by the times they were created in, with much information

given about the gowns and/or the individual Brides during the show. This program has been presented to multiple groups across the State of Florida and has been well received over the last 15 years. For additional information and pictures, please feel free to go to Leigh Ann’s Facebook

page “Portrait of a Bride, an Evolving Silhouette” at: https://www.facebook.com/Portrait-of-a-Bride-an-Evolving-Silhouette-522427194595087/?fref=ts .

News from the Golf Shop

The way Chelsea Points are distributed has been

changed effective immediately. The following changes

were approved by the Golf Committee at the Jan 18, 2017

meeting.

Players will receive 1 Chelsea Point for all play prior to

4:00. Players will receive ½ of a Chelsea Point for all

play from 4:00 to close. Players used to receive 1 point

prior to 2:00 and 0 points from 2:00 to close.

We have added a “not later than” feature to Chelsea. If

you decide to use this feature remember that you are

limiting your tee time window. At Legends we use a

“Crossover Tee Time System” to maximize play on

Monday, Tuesday afternoon, Thursday, Friday,

Saturday, and Sunday. During Crossovers there are

times available between 7:15 and 9:15, 11:45 and 1:45

and from 4:15 – Close. Please be aware of that when

using the not earlier or later than option. Example: If

you say I don’t want to play before 9:30 or after 11:30

you will not get a time because there isn’t one available

during the window you have chosen.

We have a Cobra Demo Day on Feb. 17th from

11:00 to 3:00.

Sign-Up for the Husband and Wife Championship

came out on Feb 5th, for play on Feb 26th.

The sign-up for the Club Championship,

Championship Flight Qualifier comes out on Feb. 19th for

play on March 12th. Sign-up for all other flights comes out

on Feb. 24th for play starting Mar. 17th.

For those of you that are not aware we have a Hole

-In-One club at the Legends. Stop by the Golf Shop for

details.

Be sure to use Chelsea to make your tee times.

Members, your login requires you to enter a Zero (0) your

4 digit member #, and a 1 for male members, a 2 for female

members, making it a 6 digit number. (ex. 012341)

Renters already have a 5 digit number so no zero (0) is

necessary but you still need the 1 or 2, at the end. (Ex.

712342) First time users have a default password of 1234.

As always, fix those ball marks, fill those divots

and keep up with the group in front of you.

Golfingly,

Jeff Sarver, PGA

Head Golf Professional.

The Handicap committee, together with the

league board members, have been reviewing the

handicaps of players who statistically are winning more

often than they should, or are scoring lower than would

be expected. I would like to stress that no-one is being

accused of cheating or garnishing their handicaps. Causes

of these statistical anomalies can be for several reasons.

Players may concentrate more in league play than when

they are playing with friends or spouses, or it may be that

course slope and rating does not adequately take into

account the different play on Northern courses as

opposed to Legends course. Let’s face it, getting out of

the rough is much more difficult on Northern courses.

For the eighteen hole leagues, we have generated

a handicap using just league play, and where there is a

significant discrepancy between this and the handicap in

the computer, we have made adjustments. For the Nine

hole ladies league, the problems are slightly different, in

that it takes forty rounds of nine holes to create a

complete change in the scores considered to calculate a

handicap. For them, we entered all of the nine hole

rounds on the players scoring record, and used this to

generate a nine hole handicap. Again, when large

discrepancies occurred, we adjusted the players handicap.

February 2017 Golf Event Schedule

LLNHGA News, by Dianne Ford

The LWGA would like to welcome new member, Irene McManus.

The Charity Event for Special Equestrians was a huge success. Thank you

to everyone that participated and donated for this very worthy cause. Over $4000

was raised!! Also a thank you to the Charity Event Committee and to Special

Equestrians for bringing a very special guest, Guinness! Good job ladies!

The next two weeks is the Ringer Tournament. You can still golf if you

can't make both weeks but will just have the one score to turn in. If my memory

serves me correctly, someone did place in the money and only golfed one week last

time we had this event, so it IS possible!

LWGA, by Tracey Malcolm

Our Mystery Event was huge success. A total of 106 ladies played in the Event. A Big Thank You to the

Committee of Mary Radack, Nancy Carpenter, Linda Kusmick, Jean Donohue, Kathy Pacheco, Nikki Houck, Liz Greco

and Faith Marasco. Jeannie Meeks and Eileen Townsend donated baskets and over 30 door prizes were awarded.

There is NO league play THIS coming Tuesday because of a Valentine's Day Golf Event.

Remember to sign up for golf by noon on Friday for the "Pick Your Partner" Event on February 21st. You can

also sign up for the Invitational to be held March 7th. The final date to sign up for that Event is February 21st. The sign

After making music in the Legends for over 15 years, there are still residents who do

not know we exist or have never been to a Choraliers’ performance. If that is you, Monday,

February 13 is a perfect time to fix that. The show time of 6:00 p.m. is strange, but that

is the time that worked best into the vast array of other things taking place in our community.

You do NOT have to travel to another location—just to the Legends’ DINING ROOM. You

don’t have to buy a ticket since the program is complimentary—our gift to you. Some say

“free” means it isn’t any good! I challenge you to come and find out how wrong that is with

the Choraliers. We recently entertained in Port Charlotte to a full house with the overflow

leaning against the walls and sitting on the floor. Two weeks ago we entertained 275+ at

Seven Lakes Golf and Tennis Club. You are invited to come and discover the BEST-KEPT

SECRET in our community. If you like to sing, perhaps you be singing with us next season.

Register for this program thru the Club Calendar or by calling Kelly at 561-8740 ext.
