The name of the valley where the story takes place. Tarry Town in the name of the town.

The people who settled in N.Y were Dutch. At the time of S.H., the Dutch were the prominent people in the area. Many superstitions are Dutch.

New York Knicks Diedrich Knickerbocker

In the olden days, New Yorkers were called “Knickerbockers.” Later the basketball team was called the N.Y. Knickerbockers and later the Knicks for short.

Was made up by W. Irving. Placed missing person ads for him to pay his hotel bill. If he didn’t pay, Irving was going to publish his manuscripts.
