A collection of digested cases for hopeful Law students. These cases were assigned for us to digest. I

would like to share them to you guys. If you want to print it, please cite my blog site for my credit.

Definition of Terms

BAR the professional body for lawyers

BENCH the general term for all judges, as in, "the bench", or for the

particular judge or panel of judges, as in, an order coming from "the

bench"...... the large, usually long and wide desk raised above the level of the

rest of the courtroom, at which the judge or panel of judges sit.

LAWYER a person learned in law who is licensed to act as a represent for

another in a legal matter or proceeding.

TRIAL LAWYER a lawyer who specializes in defending clients before a court

of law.

PRACTICING LAWYER a lawyer who give notice or render any kind of service,

which device or service requires the use of any degree of legal knowledge or

skill.

ATTORNEYATLAW a slightly fancier way of saying lawyer or attorney.

ATTORNEY IN FACT an attorney who may or may not be a lawyer who is

given written authority to act on anothers behalf especially by a power of

attorney.

COUNSEL DE OFICIO a counsel, appointed by the court from among such

members of the bar in good standing who, by reason of their experience and

ability, may adequately defend the accused.

COUNSEL DE PARTE a lawyer or attorney engaged by a party to represent the

latter in a case.

ATTORNEY OF RECORD is a person practicing law who has been appointed by

a person or entity to represent them on the court or legal procedures, appear

in the court in behalf of a client, sign the documents as attorney to the client,

etc and who has not been removed or otherwise discontinued at that time.

OF COUNSEL is often the title of an attorney who is employed by a law firm

or an organization, but is not an associate or a partner.

fellow law students who otherwise find it hard or

have less time to digest cases. So, if you have cases

that will be subject to my time availability.

LEAD COUNSEL an attorney approved by the court to be responsible for

overseeing all aspects of the litigation for a party.

HOUSE COUNSEL a lawyer employed by a business to work inhouse on its

legal matters

AMICUS CURIAE (Lat. friend of the court) an advisor to the court on some

matter of law who is not a party to the case, usually someone who wants to

influence the outcome of a lawsuit involving matters of wide public interest.

AMICUS CURIAE BAR EXCELLENCE association of amicus curiae
