Dramatic Development of LED Lighting Industry
When I was younger, I remember being told that the everlasting light bulb had already
been invented. According to the aged, the problem, was not one of invention, rather it
was that no company wanted to produce one, since if they did, they would have no
repeat business model and would therefore be doomed to failure. This situation would
be worse in developed countries, let alone in a developing country especially China.
In 1960s, the Chinese was suffering a painful revolution- The great Cultural
Revolution. The ordinaries lighted the kerosene lamp, while only the rich had the
condition to light incandescent light bulb.
Many years later and I still do not own such a bulb. But what I do own is an LED
light. These bulbs are quickly changing the face of the lighting industry since they
are brighter, more energy efficient and cleaner than any incandescent, halogen or CFL
bulb on the market.
Indeed, LED lights are able to produce around 70 more lumens than incandescent
bulbs and do so needing 75-80% fewer watts. They are extremely long lasting, with
the ability to go on for 25,000 hours (CFLs are usually rated for 8000-12000 hours
and incandescent 1500 - 2000 hours) and unlike other bulbs they carry no mercury.
Additionally, with the fast development of gardening, LED grow light industry of
China grasped the chance to quickly develop in the past decades. The lifespan of an
LED grow light is 50,000-10,000 hours, which is much longer than the conventional
bulbs. Some can be expected to last around 100,000 hours, or 11 years, of nonstop,
continuous operation. That is an incredible contrast to the weeks or months some
conventional bulbs can be expected to last. LED grow light has an energy efficiency
of 80-90%, while conventional light bulbs work in the opposite way, with only 20%
of energy being converted to light and 80% of it being lost as heat. LED grow lights
are often chosen for their ability to be controlled, dimmed, and optimized. Some LED
grow lights are switchable to help the growers better control them.
Whatever kinds of LED light, the advantages of LED lights outweigh the
conventional bulbs. In fact, the LED light market is anticipated to grow 35.6% percent
a year from 2012 to 2016, giving the market a total worth of around $42 billion by
2019. I firmly believe that LED light will gradually take the place of conventional
bulbs in China, even the world wide. Hence, the future of LED light is very bright
indeed.
