Pillars of a Spiritual Life

• Simran • Different than meditation • Important for Control of the Mind

• Gurbani • Everything should follow what is in the Scripture • Sri Guru Granth Sahib is meant for all of humanity. • It is written to help us find our spiritual origin

• Jeevan Jach • The right way to live. • We rely on mental strength Simran gives and the guidance of the Scripture to make

sure our behavior is appropriate.

Page 3: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

How do you get back to Waheguru?

• It’s not by thinking

• It’s not by staying quiet

• It’s not by being hungry

• It’s not by cleverness

• It’s by breaking the attachment to the body and bringing the mind in to Hukum.

Page 4: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

By thinking, He cannot be reduced to thought, even by thinking

hundreds of thousands of times.

By remaining silent, inner silence is not obtained, even by remaining

lovingly absorbed deep within.

The hunger of the hungry is not appeased, even by piling up loads of

worldly goods.

Hundreds of thousands of clever tricks, but not even one of them will

go along with you in the end.

Page 5: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

What is Hukum?

Page 6: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

God is Hukum

The mind has to accept the Law of Truth.

Page 7: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

The giver of Hukam, gives us Sa Gra (sustenance and the breath of life). ||23|| 1288

Page 8: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

Lust and anger are brought under control, when the Pavan does not fly around, wandering restlessly. Dwelling in Nirankar’s Desh, realizing the Hukam, His contemplative wisdom is attained. 1395

Page 9: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

One who controls the uncontrollable closes the nine holes of the body. One who worships and adores the Lord with his prana, stabilizes his body (wall). Where has he come from, and where will he go? Remaining dead while yet alive, he is accepted and approved. Whoever understands the Hukam realizes the essence of reality. This is known by Guru's Grace. O Nanak, know this: egotism leads to bondage. Only those who have no ego and no self-conceit, are not consigned to reincarnation. ||2||

God Thoughts

Page 11: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

How do we break the wall that separates us?

Page 12: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

Jap. We must remember and praise Waheguru with each and every breath

Page 13: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

So how can you break the wall of separation between you and Truth? Walk in the way of Hukam and accept it, for it is written in you. ||1||

Page 14: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

Oh breather of breath on your forehead is written do Simran on Har. 319

Page 15: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

ਚਸਫਚਤ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ ਸੋ ਚਿਆਨੁ ਚਧਆਨੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਸੋਈ ਜਪੁ ਜੋ ਪਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਪੂਰ ਚਿਆਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ To accept the Hukum means to practice Sifth Salah (praise). That which pleases You is Gyan and Dhyan. Jap in a way that pleases God; when you accept His Will that is pure knowledge. ||1|| 100

Page 16: Lecture 82 - Japji - part 2 (Vancouver Camp October 2014)

By His Command, some are high and some are low; by His Written Command, pain and pleasure are

obtained.

Some, by His Command, are blessed and forgiven; others, by His Command, wander aimlessly

forever.
