1. What is your new series Brotherbandabout?

The Brotherbands are a Skandian concept, in which 16 year old boys are grouped together in bands of 9 or 10 and trained together in warfare, weaponcraft, seamanship and

navigation. The central character is Hal. He's half Skandian, half Araluen. Because of this, he's a bit of an outcast. When the brotherbands are selected, he's left with the group nobody wanted - the rejects. But somehow they use their unusual skills to compete successfully with the other bands. He has also invented a new kind of sail for wolfships; (It's the one described in Book 10). But at first, the Skandians don’t accept his revolutionary new idea.

If you like Rangers Apprentice, you'll like this. Rangers Apprentice, you'll like this. Rangers ApprenticeSome characters ( Erak, Svengal and so on) appear in Brotherband.

I used to sail a Laser many years ago and I loved that. But I’ve always been interested in sailing and old fashioned navigation methods.

4. Who will this book appeal to?

For a start, I think this series will appeal to all the kids who've enjoyed Ranger's Apprentice. Namely, people who like fast moving action, a lot of adventure and humour and characters that one can grow to identify with and love.

He challenges the conventional view that dropping the bombs which killed over 100,000 people was the ‘least abhorrent choice’ available at the time. Instead, he argues that the bombing was the culmination of a strategic Allied air war on enemy civilians that began in Germany. He movingly describes the destruction through the eyes of more than eighty survivors, from 12 year olds working in war factories, to wives and children facing a day when ‘the sun fell on their heads’. A gripping human story.
