Instead of just a boys team, there was a girls team for the first time since 2002. With two full teams running at meets, both teams were able to leave their footprint in cross country history. Many things contributed to these imprints. With a new coach, Ms. Samantha Parolek, and returning coach Mr. Andy Long in charge, the team got a lot accomplished every day. Along with the leadership portrayed by many and the hard work put in by each runner, the Titans were able to really put in the miles. But their season wasn't all about running. The team also created some great memories at their spaghetti suppers. The evening before each meet, they would all meet at the Activity Center downtown and eat spaghetti, dessert, and drink grape Kool-Aid. Sydney Cottam (10) said, "The spaghetti suppers were a lot of fun. We chill before the meet. It helps us be less nervous and get the jitters out." Caryn Friesen (11) added, "It is good team bonding and brings us all closer together." One big highlight of the year was at the SNC conference meet. Cross CountryBoth teams were able to battle the wind and competition as the girls pulled out a first place and the boysfinished second. As Coach Long said, "I was excited for both of our teams to accomplish something that hasn'tbeen done in awhile. I was hoping that all the hard work everyone had put in would pay off and give themconfidence as we headed into districts." At the district meet all five girls qualified for state as a team, along withAdam Hellbusch (10) and Russell Heitmann (12). The state meet came quickly for all the runners, but withoutschool that day there were many fans there cheering everyone on. "It was amazing to come around a cornerand hear so many people cheering you on!" said Maddy Reece (11). The girls team came out with a 7th placeteam finish; Adam placed 46th and Russell 35th.
