New District 5710 Gover- nor, Jim Mattes, will make his official club visit to the Leavenworth Rotary Club on Wednesday, July 15. He will outline the goals of Rotary for the 2009-2010 year and his personal goals for the district. An informal reception and dinner will be held at the Riv- erfront Com- munity Cen- ter, at 5:30 pm on Tues- day the 14th. President, Mike Lehnherr, said the event will be “very casual” and grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be served. A sign-up sheet was available for members to indicate whether or not they would be in attendance. Lehnherr said it would be an excellent chance to get the know our new governor, and to mingle with our friends in Rotary. The meeting was led by Mike Lehnherr. Following the singing of the National Anthem, Karel Sigtenhorst gave the invocation and led in singing, “You’re a Grand Old Flag” Announcements: Shay Baker announced the club would sponsor a pancake breakfast for the First City Festival on Satur-day morning September 12 from 7:30-10:30. Stan Cherrie was pre-sented the “Top Gun” award, by Shari Hansen, for being the top fundraiser for the recent Relay for Life. Guests of Rotarians: New Paul Harris Fellow and one of those involved in selecting Wagga-Wagga Australia as a sister city, Margarite Strange, was a guest of the club. Former member Meredith Timmons was the guest of Dru Wheatcroft. Meredith talked on behalf of the

“Young Professionals” who participated in the Scaven-ger Hunt to benefit the Guid-ance Center. She shared their experiences in coming up with many “weird” items on the list. Over $27,000 was raised for the center. Bill Orlov introduced coworker, Gregg Buehler. Pot Drawing: This week’s lucky num-ber was held by new presi-dent, Mike Lehnherr, who donated the $20 pot to the Rotary Foundation.

“When a job needs to be done, Shay Baker always steps forward,” said past president Jayne Aylward, as she presented the Out-standing Service Award to Baker. Shay said the “Paul Harris Fellowship” and the “Service Award” were her “proudest” achieve-ments.
