Tuition Assistance - Partnerships You can go to the ICD Corporate website at www.icdlearning.org to learn more about these various schools that ICD Corporate has

partnered with. You still need to go through the regular Tuition Assistance process to take these classes including pre-approval.

ABTU is dedicated to providing skill-focused education and training to participants and their fami-

lies. ABTU supports “Debt Free Education” by matching ICD funds with a dollar for dollar match.

Books, software and tutoring are included at no additional cost. All lectures are delivered live,

100% online with 24/7 support to accommodate all shifts. Choose from over 100 courses of study.

Classes start every 6 weeks.

Ashworth College offers two types of programs through its ICD partnerships. Participants can take

advantage of online, customized type classes at a rate of $525 each under the “Career Programs”

tab. In addition, under the “Degrees” tab, Undergraduate Degree and Certificate Programs are

available for $1440 per semester, and Masters programs are available at a rate of $2500 per

The United Steelworkers Institute for Career Development, as a member of the learning partner

discount program, can offer participants a 10% tuition discount and exclusive scholarship opportu-

nities. Participants, along with spouses and children, are also eligible for additional services includ-

ing no application fee, no evaluation fee, complimentary tutoring, flexible or structured enroll-

ment systems, and all textbooks are provided at no cost through a CSU book grant.

ICD has a partnership with DeVry University and its Keller Graduate School of Management to

bring you affordable, accredited degree programs with the flexibility you need for work/life

balance. ICD participants are eligible for a 15% reduction on any classes at DeVry University and

Keller Graduate School.

Empire State College offers a variety of onsite and distance learning opportunities that are flexible

and geared toward adult learners. Associates, Bachelors and Masters Degrees are available in a

wide variety of fields including nursing, business, arts and labor studies. USW-ICD participants

receive a waiver for the application fee and a $100 scholarship toward first enrollment. You must

enter a partner code at enrollment to receive these benefits, request the code at

[email protected].

NetTutor provides live, one-on-one, online tutoring, covering a variety of subjects. It is great for

supporting technical training and tuition assistance programs. The tutoring service is especially

helpful for anyone in technical training that includes a mathematics component, such as Electron-

ics or HVAC. Also, NetTutor’s paper review service is tremendously helpful for participants who

need assistance with any writing assignments.

The University of Phoenix offers a variety of online degree programs and campus-based courses.

Through ICD’s partnership with the University of Phoenix, ICD participants are eligible for 10%

tuition reduction and may be eligible for college credit through Prior Learning Assessment for

articulated Career Development Classes.

Tino Fulimeni Scholarship Fund The Tina Fulimeni Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of

Brother Fulimeni. Tino was a fanatic about ICD. His commitment and contribu-

tion are evident in the success of the Career Development Program.

The Fund is administered by ICD in Merrillville, Indiana.

The following criteria must be met to be eligible for the scholarship drawing:

Applicant must be a high school graduate enrolled in college and beginning in

the fall semester of 2018 or the spring semester of 2019 or a college student

returning to school in the fall semester of 2018 or spring semester of 2019.

Applicant must have maintained, in the past, at least a cumulative 3.0 grade

point average and can demonstrate this with a transcript if selected.

Applicant must be the child/grandchild of a United Steelworkers member who

is currently eligible to participate in the Career Development Program.

The application will be available in 2018 at the New Carlisle ICD Learning Center

for the 2018 scholarship. You can submit an application online at

Active Team members can use up to $2000 for Customized Classes each calendar year. This money is

not accumulative from year to year.

You are eligible for your Education Benefit on your first day of work.

Most classes are held at the New Carlisle ICD Learning Center. If not, the other location will be listed.

Active Team Members can take classes at other regional ICD Learning Centers. They must call the New

Carlisle ICD Coordinator to register. See page 4 for a list of other regional ICD Centers. You can visit

their website to view their course catalog.

If a class is charged at a flat rate , we can offer these classes to Retirees and Spouses. Retiree and

Spouse attendance cannot add extra costs. If there is a book or material cost, the Retiree or Spouse

must pay out of pocket. Actives get priority registration.

For a Spouse to attend, the active team member must have completed a Customized Class within the

last 12 months.

Actives, Retirees and Spouses must cancel at least two business days before the start of the first day of

class. Actives will be charged if they give less than two business day notice or don’t show up. Retirees

and Spouses will lose the opportunity to take ICD classes if their attendance dips below 75% or if they

are a no-show.

ICD will announce within a week before a class if it has to be canceled due to low attendance. 5 is the

national minimum, but each instructor sets their minimum.

Actives can start registering at the December 8th Open House. Spouses and Retirees can start to regis-

ter by phone, email or text one week before the class start date.

Team Members are limited to two Personal Development Classes totaling $1250 a year. Classes are di-

vided into Basic, Computer, Pre-Technical or Personal Development. Those who have an Education Plan

will have special consideration if the class is part of their career goal.

Class Description: You’ll learn the latest tips and techniques available for the upkeep and repair of motorcycles. You will gain

hands-on experience in all facets of motorcycle systems. This class can save you thousands of dollars. Bring in your bike and get it

in top condition.

Class Description: You will become familiar with the materials, terminology and applications used to install and maintain ceramic

Class Description: Sublimation printing is the method of applying an image and sayings to specially coated hard surface items such

as ceramics, metals, fiber board and polyester cloth, using three main ingredients: sublimation ink, heat and pressure. In this class,

you will earn to use software to prepare your photo for the sublimation process and use the special equipment required for the

Class Description: Glass etching is the abrading or roughening of a piece of glass in selected areas in order to produce a design. It is

a way to produce a “frosted” design on the surface of a piece of glass, but it is much more than that! It can also be used to carve a

design deep into the glass or to produce a shaded design that looks like delicate airbrushing but is permanently etched in the glass.

Using the same equipment and techniques, it is also possible to etch or carve on stone, ceramic or wood. Great Valentine’s Gift!
