INTRODUCTION

There are many different styles which helps students to learn namely Visual, Verbal, Sequential, Global, Active, Reflective, Sensing, Intuitive. So teacher should take into account that students understand and learn with various styles. I will discussed the differences between these methods beneath.

Visual [images]• Basic information: Visual learners prefer to have information

presented in graphs, graphic organizers such as webs, concept maps and idea maps, plots, and illustrations such as stack plots and Venn plots, are some of the techniques used in visual learning to enhance thinking and learning skills.

• Technology: In this case teacher should provide a visual

explanation such as, One Note to collect the visual stuff like, video, picture, concept maps, graphs and web links to be easy for her to display the explanation and to provide for visual learner good conditions.

• Teaching Strategy: Teacher can use concept sketches to assist this type

of learner to understand the new concept in easy way by explaining a concept sketches in One Note.

Verbal [spoken/written words]• Basic information: Verbal learners get more out of words--written and

spoken explanations. The verbal learner, he/she is able to quickly and

correctly respond by recalling information that has been discussed in class.

Verbal learners have a tendency to focus on the inflection, speed, volume, tone and pitch of the instructor’s voice.

They can easily recall the details of a conversation, discussion, speech or lecture.

• Technology: Microphone is suitable for this type of learner to listen

and understand teachers’ explanation. • Teaching Strategy: Teacher can help students understanding while using

Effective Discussion style using a microphone to assist them recall the details of a conversation, discussion, speech or lecture in their test.

Sequential [logical small steps ]• Basic information Sequential learners tend to gain

understanding in linear steps, with each step following logically from the previous one.

Sequential learners tend to follow logical stepwise paths in finding solutions.

• Technology PowerPoint softcopies is important for this

type of learner to help them to follow the steps of explanation new notions.

• Teaching Strategy: While teacher explains a lesson in lecture

style she can aid this type of students by distributing a printout to follow the steps of her explanation in PowerPoint.

Global [holistic leaps]• Basic information: Global learners tend to learn in large jumps,

absorbing material almost randomly without seeing connections, and then suddenly 'getting it.

Global learners may be able to solve complex problems quickly or put things together in novel ways once they have grasped the big picture, but they may have difficulty explaining how they did it.

• Technology: Teacher can use a smart board to write only the sub-

tittles to give the students a whole picture about the lesson.

• Teaching Strategy: Teacher can use debate style with this type of

students because they will help them by coming the title of the lesson expressing their opinion and knowledge about the lesson with their classmates and teacher.

Active [physical/social engagement] • Basic information Active learners tend to retain and understand information

best by doing something active with it--discussing or applying it or explaining it to others.

“Let's try it out and see how it works' is an active learner's phrase”.

Active learners tend to like group work.

• Technology A productivity type of software is appropriate this category

of students to create their activity like Publisher, Word, Excel and Visio.

• Teaching Strategy: Teacher can utilize a Gallery Walk for this type of students

to involve them in activity with other groups by discussing, thinking and doing. This means teacher is providing a suitable condition to help them understand the lesson. Additionally, teacher can let them to work in their activity in productivity software. Then share and discuss it with the other students.

Reflective [introspection]• Basic information: Reflective learners prefer to think about it quietly first. “Let's think it through first' is the reflective learner's

phrase." Reflective learners prefer working alone. • Technology: Students can use I. Note program to write an important

point which the teacher mentioned in their explanation. because the class room not provides time to think so students can compensate for this lack when they study.

• Teaching Strategy: Lecture is appropriate style for Reflective learner while

the teacher start their lesson students should start writing a note. Also, according this type of students, teacher should not force them to work as a group.

Page 9: Learning styles

Sensing [sensory perceptions ]• Basic information Sensing learners tend to like learning facts. Sensors often like solving problems by well-established

methods and dislike complications and surprises; Sensors likely to resent being tested on material that has not

been explicitly covered in class. Sensors tend to be patient with details and good at memorizing

facts and doing hands-on (laboratory) work. Sensors tend to be more practical and careful. Sensors don't like courses that have no apparent connection to

the real world; • Technology Teacher can use overhead projector to explain development of

a person, group or thing, especially in order to show general principles.

• Teaching Strategy: Case Study is helpful for this type of students by using

overhead projector to follow the explanation. Furthermore, teacher has to apparent connection between the lesson and the real world.

Page 10: Learning styles

Intuitive [memories/ideas/insights]• Basic information: Intuitive learners often prefer discovering possibilities

and relationships. Intuitors may be better at grasping new concepts with

abstractions and mathematical formulations. Intuitors tend to work faster and to be more innovative. Intuitors don't like 'plug-and-chug' courses that involve a

lot of memorization and routine calculations.

• Technology: Online mathematical games to give the students chance

to grasping new concepts with abstractions and mathematical formulations.

• Teaching Strategy: Teacher can use Effective Discussion style to

interpretation or theories that link the facts. In addition while the teacher discusses and explains they will discover possibilities and relationships of the concept.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, as I explained above all learning style is different and each of students learns differently from other students. So teacher should be aware that not all of their students learn in same method and they should bear in mind that no one teaching method will effectively reach all of students. In addition teacher should know about their students’ type to prepare their lesson accordingly.
