Discovery day

Guests at our Ashorne Hill Discovery Day in September were invited to experience our dedicated learning and development approach - including our blended learning, online content, facilitator-led sessions and experiential activities.

Case study presentations covered how we always ensure a sound return on investment from learning & development programmes: and a series of workshop sessions illustrated how the Ashorne Hill team creates and delivers programmes directly aligned with our customers’ priority business objectives.

Several guests stayed with us the night before the event due to their travel commitments - with others joining them for breakfast early on the day itself. Attendance at our Discovery Day events, including overnight accommodation and hospitality throughout, is on an entirely complimentary basis - enabling our guests to sample the full ‘Ashorne Experience’.

Bite-sized workshop sessions addressed the following priority L&D questions:

- How can my organisation save time and money by managing change more effectively?- How can I ensure that managers have the confidence and competence to tackle under-performance?- How can I change our culture so that we are more aligned to our business values?- How do I motivate, develop and retain high potentials?- How do I equip our graduates with the right skills to hit the ground running?

Great insight into Ashorne’s style and approach, not just training content – we can picture how you would interact with people in our organisation

A good understanding of how you approach diagnostics and initial training needs research to capture aims and objectives before designing a programme

Planning of the day itself was really good – the questions we ticked were picked up in the bite-sized sessions: and the venue is lovely!

Customer Profile - Healthcare at Home

Healthcare at Home is the UK’s largest home healthcare provider, with around 1,000 employees caring for more than 150,000 patients a year. Founded in 1992, the vision was, and remains today, to transform the way in which care is provided for patients both in the home and in the community.

Ashorne Hill was invited to design a development programme to support Healthcare at Home in their Senior Clinical and Quality Manager (SCQM) induction activity. The programme is planned to spread across five phases linked by a golden thread, Working Smarter – Growing Stronger Together: and driving their core values of excellence, teamwork, patient focus, customer satisfaction, continual innovation and integrity.

Target learning objectives and outcomes identified for the initial phase of the programme include:

• Create the foundations of an effective senior leadership team.• Develop a base understanding of an evolving commercial business and how the SCQM role supports this activity.

Ashorne Hill - Applying the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)feedback utilising a robust process which emphasises the ethical application of the instrument acknowledging that:• Completion of the inventory is voluntary.• Results belong to respondents and are only shared as they wish them to be.• MBTI should never be used for recruitment, selection, promotion or dismissal.

A typical MBTI session includes:1. An introduction covering the purpose, history and background of the instrument.2. A discussion about the basic assumptions of type theory.3. A guided self-assessment process.4. Review using a completed MBTI questionnaire, which caneither be done online before the event or in a self-scored format within the session.5. An exploration of best-fit type.6. A discussion about the implications and application of the individual’s preferences as identified by the MBTI process.

The process followed reinforces one of the guiding principles of MBTI, that an individual is the best judge of their own type.

At Ashorne Hill our team of qualified practitioners use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to enhance an individual’s personal awareness and development and to help teams become more effective.

When working with individual clients we will often use MBTI within a programme of coaching, where insights into their personality preferences can help the client to identify how to work at their best and develop successful working relationships with others.

MBTI is also used within team development programmes to help organisations improve communication, problem solving and decision making; to manage conflict constructively and to plan and implement organisational change.

Our leadership and management development programmes often incorporate a session on MBTI, providing an opportuni-ty to explore and understand preferences through the use of exercises in a group setting.

Whether MBTI forms part of a coaching engagement, a training programme or a team development event we always provide

Based on the theory of Carl Jung, MBTI is used to illustrate personality preferenc-es-helping individuals understand and appreciate individual differences on the above four dimensions.

“This was the first time that the newly formed senior clinical and quality management team had come together and Ashorne Hill provided the perfect setting for such an event. The two day event was action packed, providing a fantastic mix of theory and practice, expertly facilitated.

The team were very positive about the event and really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know each other in a unique setting away from the workplace and start to form a plan for how they want to work together in the future, The programme provided the backdrop and foundation stones for setting this future direction.” -Cathy Waters Director of Clinical Services

• Developing others, including performance management• Establishing an ongoing coaching & mentoring approach.

Design consultancy activity is now continuing to create a targeted learning experience for Healthcare at Home participants that will drive forward the organisation’s priority business objectives.

• Recognise what the role will contribute to the overall success of the business.• Gain self-belief and acquire gravitas within the SCQM role through direction/ motivation and being able to articulate the future of Healthcare at Home.

• Use MBTI analysis to appreciate important differences between people and understand how different personality types work, enabling effective team working.

Later phases of the programme will include a focus on:• How to assimilate information and make decisions - achieving consensus by challenging effectively• Root cause analysis and problem solving • Reinforcing a team working approach• Strategic thinking and putting it into practice• Understanding financials and commerciality • Managing and motivating a field based team
