Use flash cards during presentation to map the course of the 10 minutes presentation.

Introduction & slide 1. 1 min.Hello and welcome to todays session, my names Emma and I will be taking you on a discovery trip of learning. Just before we start, please can you hold these for me (hand out peripherals)

Slide 2. - 3.5 minsMake yourself comfortable, I am going to show you a short video. (Start you tube clip)

Move to slide 3. 1 minDo you remember what you just saw on the video? ASK AUDIENCE. Well actually, there is a good chance that you will only remember 50% of what you just saw after two weeks.

Move to slide 4. 3.5 minsAs we can see from Edgar Dales cone of learning.

So.. if I ask you to just read this slide, within the next two weeks you will only remember 10% of what you have read. And what about if I asked you about seeing words how much do you think you could remember after two weeks? 30%Or saying words.. 70%

Now for example, if I was to speak to you about the cone on screen and go on all day about it which would be a bit boring for you (saying a bit boring for you quite fast, then sounding the crazy trumpet noise) you will still remember 20% of what I have said due to the interruption of noise. And one day you might just hear a similar noise somewhere down the road, where you would hear a crazy trumpet noise again I dont know but you will think of the learning cone and this training session.

A personal favourite method of learning is to DO. If you remember at the beginning of this session I asked you to hold a peripheral, a peripheral is a tool used by trainers and facilitators to keep learners engaged, unlocking their full learning capacity and hopefully youre learning capacity. The result of this training is that by putting all of these elements together, we get 90% of the learning material in two weeks as opposed to each individual element on its own.

Closing statement 1 min.

As you are aware, new Pearson employees undertake a two week induction programme. This induction fits perfectly within the cone of learning, as it brings all the elements of the learning process together to enable the new employees to retain and implement 90% of all they have learnt out on the customer Service centre and into their new teams. As a direct result of efficient training, this allows new employees hit the ground running and to be successful in passing their probation. This is not only great esteem for new employees but for Pearson VUE customer service levels.I hope you have learnt a great deal from todays session. Learn all we can, while we can. Seize the day!! Honk Honk Honk.

Thank you very much.
