MultimediaWelcome to week 6 everybody! It is already half way through the term and the students in Multimedia have an abundance of energy after finishing swimming in week 4. The students well and truly needed the long weekend to get ready to learn. Students have continued to delve into time during Mathematics sessions with having fantastic opportunities to create clock hats and watches and enjoy great learning experiences through games. On Monday the students learnt about Remembrance Day as it was the 11/11. Students made poppies, listened to the book ‘My Grandad Marches’ and learnt about the meaning of the day. During our literacy sessions, students have had the opportunities to create quizzes about different countries and test Multimedia’s knowledge on the subject. Thank you everyone and have a great week.

Middle YearsWelcome to week six. We are almost half way through the term! It has been very busy in the Middle Years with students participating in transitions, excursions and swimming. Some of the Middle Years students were lucky enough to visit the Melbourne Aquarium as part of their Semester 2 Inquiry. Students were able to see a huge range of sea animals and sea creatures, also they were able to enjoy an exciting bus ride into the city. There will be further excursions over the coming weeks with students visiting the Zoo and Geelong sensory park - what great fun!

Students who are transitioning to our Later Years Campus’s have continued to visit weekly;

this is a great opportunity to build students confidence in the upcoming change. There will be information sessions held at each campus on Wednesday 20th November, so please keep your eye out in Seesaw for details of these sessions.

Please remember that Term 4 is a Sunsmart term and all students must be wearing a hat at any time they are outside.

BRC NewsMarket day was a great success for our Year 11 and 12 students. It was wonderful to see students proud of their hard work and commitment to their business. I was proud of the way students interacted with visitors to their business and how professionally they addressed questions. The level of leadership and collaboration from students was also impressive. Well done to all students who participated.

Year 11 and 12 have are currently on the Queensland camp. It was great to receive photos of students boarding the plane and once again representing the school extremely well outside the school grounds. Thank you also to staff who on camp supporting these students. A reminder that the Year 8 – 9 2019 camp will take place on 27-29th November. Please speak with your child’s teacher if you require any further information or clarification.

Year 8 and 9 students participated in the young initiators workshop at the Wyndham Tech school last week and once again enjoyed the hands-on interaction with technology. It was wonderful to see students exploring and being creative together. We will have a group of female students participating in the SmartHer girls in STEM workshop on Friday 22nd November. Year 10 students will also be participating in Road to Zero on Thursday 28th November.

I look forward to sharing more learning at BRC in a fortnight.

Danielle Heckmann, Assistant Principal, Later Years

Year 10 NewsCan you believe we are already in week 6! The year 10s are extremely busy working on their project to produce a tv talk show called The Real Health Thing. Job roles have been selected and applied for and now script writing and sets are being put together. To gain even more insight into how tv shows are put together we are lucky enough to be in the audience of the Millionaire Hotseat on Wednesday the 13th. We will be able to see what camera operators do, how many shots it takes to get parts right and meet the host Eddie McGuire!

Students who are signed up to VET and SBAT courses for 2020 have been spending the last few weeks applying for their courses which is a big process. Work experience is still occurring with select students attending the Wyndham library and Mambourin on Fridays.

Teachers have been busy writing reports and doing the last term of Renaissance testing, it is amazing to see all the growth all students have made this year!

Just a friendly reminder to buy formal tickets as this a great celebration of students time at BRC and is sure to be an entertaining night.

BRC Years 8 & 9This week at BRC the students have been working very hard electives and social enterprise programs. The ‘In the Mix’ group have been working on making a class album.

Throughout the week, each of the classes have been focusing on our PBL unit, ‘The World We Live In’. The students have been deciding on whether they want to create a product or promote or encourage an action. These will relate to the sustainability topics that the students have been learning about throughout the semester. For numeracy, the students have been focusing on developing their understanding of time and reading schedules. Students have been taking part in activities that involve using a calendar and making sense of their personal schedules.

Last week at BRC the year 8/9s were fortunate enough to go on an excursion to the Wyndham Tech School on Hoppers Lane to learn about City West Water. They took part in six rotations, each focusing on technology and future employment options.

In STEAM, the students have been making solar ovens out of recycled materials and testing

them to see if they can melt a chocolate or marshmallow. They have enjoyed producing them and testing them out in the sun.

As a note, in just a week and a half, the 8/9’s will be heading to Lady Northcote Recreation Camp. This should be a very exciting opportunity for the students as we start winding down towards the end of term 4.

Year 12 Campers

Here we are at the airport ready to board our flight to Queensland. We went to Currumbin WildLife Sanctuary. We fed the birds, kangaroos and watched the sheep shearing. We also had a chance to have a photo with an eagle. At SeaWorld we saw the penguins, polar bear, sharks, jelly fish, and sting rays. We watched the dolphins perform and had opportunities to go on some rides. In the evening we went to Surfers Paradise and went for a ride in the Aqua Duck, where we all had a chance to drive the boat. On Thursday we are going to Movie World and Friday we are on our way back to Victoria. From QLD Campers 2019.
