1. Open your image in which you want to add a moon by selectingFILE, OPEN. Then navigate to the folder in which you haveyour picture.

3. Download the file and remember where you save it.

5. Press the B key on your keyboard to select the BRUSH tool.

8. Click the small icon at the top of the BRUSH dialog box.

9. From the list, select LOAD BRUSHES.

10. Navigate to the location where you saved the brushes.

11. Click the moon_brushes_by_hawksmont.abr file andclick OPEN.

12. Select the desired BRUSH from the list.

13. Move the cursor to the image and adjust the outline to the desired sizeusing the [ ] keys or by adjusting the SIZE slider.

14. If the LAYERS palette isn't visible, click on the LAYERS button.

15. Click on the NEW LAYER (dog ear) icon to add a new transparent layer.

16. Press the D key on your keyboard to reset the default palette colours.

17. Press the X key on your keyboard to set WHITE as the foreground palettecolour.

18. Place the BRUSH on the image in the location you want the moon.

19. Tap on the picture to add the moon.

20. Use the keyboard shortcut CMD/CTRL-J toto duplicate the layer.

21. From the FILTER menu, select BLUR; GAUSSIAN BLUR.

22. Adjust the RADIUS until the moon has a faint glow.

23. Zoom in to the sky by pressing CMD/CTRL +.

24. If the sky is grainy, you will need to complete steps 25, 26, & 27 (adding noise).

25. In the LAYERS palette, click on LAYER 1.

26. From the FILTER menu, select NOISE; ADD NOISE.

27. Adjust the AMOUNT: 2.5%, DISTRIBUTION: UNIFORM and tick MONOCHROMATIC.

28. In the LAYERS palette, hold down the CMD/CTRL key while clicking on LAYER 1and LAYER 1 COPY.

29. Right-click in the blue area and select MERGE LAYERS.

30. In the LAYERS palette, click on the LAYER MASK icon.

31. Press the G key on your keyboard to select the GRADIENT tool.

32. In the TOOL options, select the WHITE/BLACK gradient; MODE: NORMALand LINEAR GRADIENT.

33. Draw a line from the top of the moon toward the bottom of the image that is about twice the size of the moon.

34. The resulting MASK will provide a moon that is brighter at the topwhere the sky is darkest and dimmer where the city lights washout the night sky.
