Comprehensive 1 Year Programme with Articulation to Degree

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVEThe Diploma aims to develop and groom students with the skills to be animators and video producers. The animation industry in Asia consists of a workforce that stretches across many of the sectors in the creative media industries. This program is designed to stimulate the pre and post production workflow in the Animation industry. Through classroom teaching and guided mentoring, students will be guided on the use of advanced digital tools and cinematic storytelling skills. The modules cover a study of the principles and tools of animation and explore the fundamentals of motion, composition, character design, storyboarding, modeling, lighting, texturing and art direction for a career in the Animation industry.

PROGRAMME LAYOUTThis course comprises of 1 year coaching. Full Time - 5 Days a Week and 5 Hours a Day Part Time - 3 Days a Week and 3 Hours a Day

Full Time and Part Time option is available.

Note: International Students can only opt for Full-Time Course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTApplicants must have a passion for creation, a love of media and entertainment, and willingness to strive for good results.

16 years old (based on date of birth) at point of start class. GCE ‘A’ Levels or Applicants should have passed a minimum of 12 years senior high school education with proof of pass in English. Student has to pass all subjects with the required average score of 65%.

MODULE OUTLINE

DA103 - History and Principles of AnimationThis subject introduces students to use media literacy through a comprehensive exploration of history and traditional animation techniques. This module will utilize the twelve principles of animation as a springboard that will help build a strong foundation.

DA109 - Character RiggingThis subject introduces students in the rigging process involves inserting a virtual skeleton into a computer-generated model to allow an animator flexibility in manipulate it into the pose.

DA106 - Storyboarding and ScriptwritingThis subject introduces students to the basic technique of story development and to guide them through the mechanics of fleshing out an interesting and engaging story.

DA107 - 3D Modeling in MayaThis subject introduces students to the skills required to create 3D models in Maya creatively and efficiently. Students will be taught how to create 3D models of existing objects based on photograph references, and 3D models of cartoon characters based on their own design.

DA108 - Texturing and LightingStudents will be taught on how to prepare a 3D model for texturing, and the technique of painting texture by using Adobe Photoshop. They will also learn how to light 3D objects in a scene, and also how to render it to create photorealistic images.

DA101 - Perspective and CompositionThis subject introduces students to perspectives and allows them to learn how to draw accurate representations of objects as they really see them in the world.

DA102 - Character and Environment DesignThis subject introduces students to character and environment design for animation. They will learn concepts of character design and the factors that will relate to the characters’ personalities and their environment.

DA104 - Digital ImagingThis module has been designed to explain the basic understanding of a raster-based software program to create, manipulate, and modify raster-based images.

DA105 - Digital 2D AnimationThis subject will introduce students to the principles and techniques required for the development of professional, two-dimensional, digital animation projects.

DA110 - Character AnimationThis subject introduces students to Maya and its application for 3D animation. Students will learn how they can apply weight, timing, arcs and principles of slow-in and slow-out to 3D animation, by working on simple key-framed animation such as bouncing balls and pendulums.

DA111 - Final ProjectThis module provides the opportunity for students to produce and develop a professional, industry standard animated movie. By the end of the module, all students will have a full production of a single piece of broadcast quality animated film showing attention to narrative and production techniques.

FEE STRUCTURE

MEDICAL COVERAGE

MAGES adopts a Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) to protect the paid fees of both local and international students. The FPS serves to protect the student’s fees in the event that the PEI is unable to continue operations due to insolvency, and/or regulatory closure. In addition, the FPS protects the student if the PEI fails to pay penalties or return fees to the student arising from judgments made against it by the Singapore courts.

The FPS is compulsory for all students and is available in 2 forms, either ESCROW or Insurance Protection Scheme. MAGES has adopted the ESCROW scheme. For more information, visitwww.mages.edu.sg.

MAGES has appointed The Development Bank of Singapore Limited (DBS) as the FPS Escrow Provider. Under the FPS escrow scheme, students will pay their fees directly to DBS. DBS will act as the custodian of students’ fees and will only disburse the fees to MAGES on a fixed schedule. Again, in case of events as stated above, students will be able to retrieve their unconsumed fees from DBS. FEE PROTECTION SCHEME

Established under the Private Education Act, the Council for Private Education (CPE) is a statutory board empowered with the legislative power to regulate the private education sector. The Enhanced Registration Framework (ERF), as set out under the Private Education Act and the Private Education Regulations, spells out the mandatory registration requirements and legislative obligations which all private education institutions, operating in and from Singapore, must meet. Under EduTrust Certification Scheme regulated by the Council for Private Education (CPE), MAGES has put in place some mandatory requirements, namely PEI – Student Contract, Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) and Medical Insurance Coverage.

TRANSFER, WITHDRAWAL, DEFERMENT & REFUND POLICY

STANDARD STUDENT CONTRACTThe aim of the new quality assurance, EduTrust, is to enhance the confidence of students and their parents in the quality of education in Singapore. MAGES Institute of Excellence will enter a standard PEI-Student Contract with the student. The contract lays out the important terms and conditions governing the relationship between students and MAGES.

CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY

All students local or international (*) are covered under Medical Insurance with benefits mentioned below. MAGES Institute of Excellence has appointed American International Assurance Company, Limited as our Official Medical Insurance provider. Our Group Policy No. is 70675.

Minimum features / coverage for our medical insurance are: - Annual Limit not less than S$20,000 per student; - At least B2 ward (in government and restructured hospitals); & - 24 hours coverage in Singapore and overseas (if student is involved in school-related activities).

(*) Local Students already having similar insurance policy may choose to opt out.
