Functional dentistry in the cad-caM era

Functional and comprehensive dentistry used to be, mainly, based on the handcraftsmanship of dedicated and talented dental technicians and dentists. Can CAD/CAM technology and equipment be applied to fully integrate the digital documentation and workflow in dentistry while improving, rather than compromising precision and quality?

The Integration of digital and aesthetic dentistry

This presentation will focus on how new developments in digital technology compliment and improve the comprehensive aesthetically-driven treatment of today's patients. The proven, step-by-step treatment sequences, from diagnostics to provisional to final restorations, are not only possible to do with today's digital tools; the outcome is actually enhanced in many ways, when compared to the analog processes previously utilized by the dental treatment team. We will explore how we apply these ideas to the restoration of today's aesthetically-motivated patient. Come share this exciting new technology with me!

Matt’s passion for excellence has kept him enthusiastic about aesthetic reconstructive dentistry for over 35 years. As a teenager, he started fabricating gold restorations for his father’s dental practice. Matt opened CMR Dental Lab in 1979, where he still pursues his passion for excellence in esthetics and function. As a member of both the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry since 1996, he has kept in the forefront of his field. A keen interest in sharing his ideas has kept Matt involved in continuing education programs; teaching, and working with many of the prominent dentists of today.

Fixed removable prosthesis: a new approach for full-mouth rehabilitation

In the rehabilitation of the edentulous patient, a removable prosthesis supported by implants is still a valuable and modern solution. Modern technologies of design and of material development, such as CAD-CAM technology and new retention systems, allow the clinician to have multiple treatment options in the same prosthetic project. The purpose of this report is to show a simple and predictable working protocol that provides the patient with a prosthesis that meets the aesthetic and functional expectations. We will also describe the clinical and technical phases developed with a careful analysis of the most recent scientific literature.

Luca ortensi was born in Bologna in 1969. He was awarded his Diploma in Dental Technology at the L. Dehon Odontotechnical School in Bologna in 1988, and worked as a dental technician at his father’s laboratory during the years he studied dentistry, focusing on fixed prosthesis. He graduated from dentistry from the University of Bologna in 1993. He has completed annual courses in fixed prosthesis and a master’s degree in adhesion at the University of Siena in 2001. He has published various scientific articles on fixed prosthesis in national and international journals and has spoken at numerous courses and congresses. He works with important dental companies in developing new materials and method of application. He is self-employed specializing in prosthesis and reconstructive dentistry.

Polymer Materials in dental applications - Possibilities and Limitations

Fixed bridge restorations with a limited number of implants have become the treatment of choice for treating edentulous patients in recent years. Temporary restorations have an important role in the rehabilitation. Traditional substructure and veneering materials reach their limits when fabricating definitive restorations, in particular in the case of circular bridge restorations. Stress and deformation commonly result in fractures and flaking - so-called chipping. Their causes and background are outlined in the lecture and the clinical success rates for different solutions are compared. The lecture will also cover how to avoid chipping; how to plan perfect temporary restorations; how to perform direct and indirect repairs of veneer fractures from their metal or ceramic substructures and; how to advantageously combine ceramic and polymer materials.

olaf Glük was born in Erfurt, Germany in 1970.In 1996, he graduated from the University of the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena with a degree in Business Administration. From 2007 to 2014 he was managing shareholder of Xplus3 GmbH (Germany), a company that develops dental materials and systems for dental veneering technology. Since 2015 he is Managing Director responsible for sales and development of Bredent group.

aesthetic & Function - Methodologies for dental clinics and dental laboratories

There is great synergy between a correct functioning job and excellent aesthetics. Aesthetics is the crucial starting point and most important focus in every prosthetic rehabilitation. The lecture will discuss the factors that should ideally be combined in practical aesthetics and that must be considered in an appropriate treatment plan for the individual patient, as well as the codified key technical steps for obtaining excellent results in daily routines. The use of appropriate instruments for transfers, such as face bows and articulators (with their related accessories), is a fundamental part of achieving these objectives. It is also crucial to establish a working protocol that helps to use this equipment correctly. The lecture will demonstrate that all of this can and must be considered and used routinely everyday, so that our work can be appropriately integrated into the patient’s stomatognathic system.
