Flexible modelling from point data

Leapfrog Geo 3.1 introduces new workflows for modelling using point data. A 3D selection tool allows

simple, fast in-scene categorisation of millions of imported points. Use query filters and model evaluations

to quickly identify points of interest and re-categorise these using the new 3D selection tool. Once points

have been correctly categorised, the new guide points workflow sets up points for use in dynamic implicit

surfaces.

This new functionality improves many common workflows, including:

Modelling from blasthole centroid data

Import blasthole measurements into the Points folder and fix errors/re-categorise with the 3D point

selection tool. Generate guide points from the points then add these to a surface in a Leapfrog model or

use the guide points to build a new surface.

Modelling from blasthole drillhole data

Blastholes can be imported as short drillholes, usually with a single interval. This is an improvement on

modelling them with the intrusion values workflow, which often produced surfaces that ‘stepped’ around

each blasthole due to the nature of intrusion value point spacing. Now, surfaces can be generated from the

blasthole mid-point as opposed to the entire interval. Simply create interval midpoints from the blasthole

intervals, then build guide points from these using the lithology/category column. The guide points can then

be used in the same way as intrusion values.

Categorise points and collars in the scene

Select and assign points and collars into categories in Leapfrog’s powerful 3D environment. Points can be

selected in-scene and then assigned to a new category. Once saved, the new category column can be

used in the same way as imported category information.

Guide points

Guide points can now be created from category data in the project and added to surfaces. Category data

that can be used to create guide points includes:

Downhole category data

Category data on imported points

Interval midpoints

Guide points are classified into Interior or Exterior, and each guide point is assigned a distance value that is

the distance to the nearest point on the opposite side.

LAS import for drillhole point measurements

LAS 1.2 and 2 drillhole logs can now be imported into Leapfrog. This import workflow can handle multiple

LAS files, and will convert them into a single drillhole points table. Imported LAS files can be viewed in 3D

as a single object, and columns of data common across all LAS files can easily be used as input into a

Page 5: Leapfrog Geo 3.1

Leapfrog numeric interpolant. Query filters are automatically created on import for each of the original LAS

files, making it easy to see each of the individual files.

LAS files are ideal data to view in the new drillhole Correlation tool introduced in Leapfrog 3.0. This tool lets

you view category and numeric drillhole data in a simple and intuitive 2D interface. New interpretation

tables can be made based on the correlations visible across all your data. Now LAS data such as downhole

geophysics can easily be imported and can play a part in this interpretation.

Extended multicore processing

In 2014, Leapfrog introduced the ability to use up to 4 cores when processing. Leapfrog Geo 3.1 increases

this capability to 8 cores. Those with high end computers with 8-core processors can now access all of their

computer’s power to significantly reduce processing times when tackling complex modelling problems.

Reloading ESRI Geodatabases

Imported GIS data from ESRI Geodatabases can be reloaded. ESRI Geodatabase and MapInfo batch files

are now organised as a collection of objects in the project tree.
